So we just started up our dyno for FSAE today (Which I wired all of and built most of btw ) so anyway on a hot start we got a large backfire through the intake because of fuel, and it shot the throttle body right of, broke the head off one of the throttle plate screws, and bent the throttle plate. It was funny and horrible at the same time haha. Sorry bout the bad quality... btw im the one on the computer.

That was pretty weak for FSAE, I need to pull some old videos, 1-2 meter backfires out of our 2008 car while struggling with microsquirt (worst idea ever, mega was much better.)

We probably have the same Land and Sea dyno.

FSAE was a lot of fun but many of the guys I worked with were wussy when it came to actually doing engine work. We did come out with a cool awd setup one year, but not being an engineer myself (only non engineer on my school's team to date) I didn't get to drive in the races.

Vid is dark but is there no plenum on there?

It's about time! I worked in the University Center there years ago.

I'd never heard of Formula Hybrid before, and you've got me reading up on it now.

Amazing how many glaring holes there are in the rules, especially given that you've got nothing but college-age geeks running in it. For instance, in 3.5.4.5 it states that "Catch cans must be capable of containing boiling water without deformation" but fails to specify the temperature and pressure of the boiling water in question. Build your catch can out of a paper towel coated with spray-paint, put some water in it, stick it in a bell jar, and evacuate the atmopshere. Viola: the catch can is capable of containing boiling water!

Or 3.5.2: "To qualify as a hybrid, vehicles must be capable of completing a 75 meter acceleration run in electric-only mode in less than 10 seconds." Well heck, my Miata qualifies as a hybrid. It can do that on the starter motor, assuming a 30° downward incline. Doesn't say that the vehicle has to be stationary at the beginning of the run, either.

Aaah, rules...

Lookin good! What kind of hp #'s are you guys looking at (I noticed it said to be announced or something like that). My team was using gsxr 600 engines, I don't think any were new but we were getting ~120hp with the (iirc) 2cm restrictor.

Well, they also have the catchall that everything has to be "in the spirit of the rules."

There are plenty of workarounds though, like our baja team using a vacuum formed lexan chain guard last year and them outlawing it this year, but specified "lexan" in the rules. Needless to say they still vacuum formed another chain guard, but out of HDPE.
