Ok, you guys are definitely damping my enthusiasm for the maple bacon coffee brew

But tonight I am enjoying a delicious brew I found at Costco from Allagash:

Paired with my own awesome 13 ingredient stir-fry, it is absolutely killer. I highly recommend trying this.

I'm on case #3 of Oberon.
Not bad considering Oberon day was only 10 days ago.

I may be an alcoholic.

Happy lunch today.

Hofbrau Delicator on tap. 8.4% doppelbock with a sweet, nutty flavor offsetting a slight alcohol bite.

"The boys are back in town, the boys are back in town . . ." (Thin Lizzy, circa 1976)

Also, I picked up a bottle of this Norwegian RIS:

^^ Some good looking brews on that list. What did you end up trying?

That list reminded me of the "Slater's 50/50 Burgers By Design" restaurants with their amazing draft beer selection with almost 100 craft beers on tap at any given time. Check it out, it's like a fantasy: https://slaters5050.com/beers-on-tap/san-diego/. Anyway, they've always been a socal thing, but just recently I found out they are opening one near me soon (in norcal). Can't wait for that.

Meanwhile, I've been adding further provisions to the cellar (basement) in anticipation of the inevitable summertime "stout drought", when all the good dark beer disappears with the coming of warmer weather.

I bought the 4 pack of KBS about a month ago. I still have two in the fridge.
They're so good, but so bad for you. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to drink one now.

Holy *****, that's a great score. Stores in my state only get like 1 case. Bottles are usually raffled off.

I did finally get to taste it yesterday, 2 8 oz pours of hell's nectar! It lives up to the hype, IMHO.

Pretty much this.

Beer related:

Walked past this spot today after leaving Empire on my way downtown:

Non-beer-related:

Wine in cans, at the local Trader Joe's wine store. And no, this is far from the least expensive wine there:

Get ready to see more and more canned wine. After all it is a superior container for both beer and wine unless it is meant to be aged lengthily.

Actually, the lady just moved out to CA to work in the wine industry. There are plenty of initiatives to develop just that at the larger producers. Sounds like I might eventually be a left coaster soon-ish after all

I bought one to try. I know underwood makes good stuff and I don't need 750mLs of wine all to myself so the portion is on point. I'll let you know how it goes.

To stay on topic, Boulevard Dark Truth stout. It's not got the big body I like in my stouts so it definitely drinks easy, relative to the style. Sharp hop bitterness in in the very beginning then really roasty smoky malt and strong molasses. Maybe too much. And then its lightly fruity at the end, like figs or something. Definitely interesting with some new flavors going on but not a showstopper to me (for that: Big Bad Baptist)

True story:

Wine in boxes.

I realize that in the US it gets a bad rap, but it's quite popular in Europe, and not all of it is *****. You can open a 1.5l bag and consume it at a leisurely pace over the course of several days. I'm about halfway through a $7.99 bag of TJ's "Postulate" merlot, and it's surprisingly good.

Absolutely! I love the pour-your-preferred-serving-size style. And it is also a great medium for preserving wine. Preserving, not aging. I like Barbera in a box.

Pro tip: Try and avoid box/bag wine with this tap, in particular if you take a long time to finish it. Apparently it seals quite poorly out of the available styles in both storage and after you start pouring from it.

Back on topic: When can I get some Big Bad Baptist in a box/bag? Smaller portions of quality stouts usually sold in bombers would be primo. I'm sure carbonation *** with it, but I'm philosophizing here.

Boxed stouts sounds perfect. Though you'd probably want the mylar bag put inside a blow molded plastic box instead of a cardboard one, that way they can pressurize between the box and the bag to keep the bag from expanding and letting the carbonation out. Thats actually probably something patentable now that I think of it, oops.

It would be great to not have to commit to a buzz just to enjoy some of the big monster stouts only available in bombers. Not that it's always a bad thing, just that a choice would be nice.
