For those who care, North Coast Brewing is "temporarily suspending production" of Brother Thelonious Belgian style abbey ale due to pending litigation regarding the use of the name. Merch was 50% off at the brewery store in Ft. Bragg and the beer will no longer be produced after June 30st until the suit is settled.

It's that time of year again:

I miss San Diego so very much. |
Still shaking the cobwebs off from a tasting that some friends put on last night featuring two variants of Black Tuesday.
First bottle: https://cdn.ct-static.com/labels/670485.jpg Second bottle: https://thefullpint.com/wp-content/u...ck-Tuesday.jpg These beers are in a whole other class - just mind blowing. |
Double dose of Three Floyds tonight.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...52fb466b44.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4f9a4d040b.jpg They make great bell-ringers |
^Wish they sold the brand here, I'd like to try their Crack The Skye.
|
I'm not usually big in IPA's, but I happened to be in the right place at the right time the other day. Got to try one that we NEVER see out here on the left coast. I have to say it was pretty fantastic; lived up the hype.

pFriem Mango Milkshake, experimental IPA #006.
I like big beers. This is a big beer, and somewhat unusual. Low IBU for an IPA, with a sweet mango finish. 7.9%, 35 IBU I like the shit out of this beer. Recommended. I had two. |
Boneyard Notorious IPA
80 IBU, 11.5% ABV This is my new favorite beer. It's like Boneyard RPM (my previously favorite IPA) X 3. It is spectabulous. Fantacular. What do I like about it? Big body. Big hops. Big finish hops. Big ABV. Big! Beyond that, it has all of the spectacular bigness, including bittering hops and finish hops, and then has this apricot finish. Makes it super easy to drink. Nothing complicated about this beer. IPA peeps will like it. I believe even beer noobs will like it, because of the sweet finish. I loves it. Hard to find, and Boneyard at this time does not package, so if you can't find it on draft, you can't find it. I have made it my mission to make my next Beer Fridge refill to be this beer. It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine. |

Unghhhhhhhh... $6.50 a bottle. There go all my pennies. |

Dropped by a new local-ish bottle room to check it out. Their tap list was, um, impressive.

If you like a darker beer, that Deschutes jubleale from 2015 should be pretty good. It is brewed to age really well.
|
Yep, that one should be fantastic too. I am a big fan of Deschutes' limited production stuff. I have a Black Butte 28 and a pair of 29s in my cellar, as well as a 2016 Abyss and 2017 Dissident. I opened my Black Butte 27 for my 30th birthday party a couple of weeks ago and it was incredible.
That was only half the list, too. Might have to spend the day there tomorrow and Lyft home afterwards. |
Almanac Rose, and a vertical epic of W00tstouts. Nice.
They must really be ramping up the production on that. I only got one bottle the first year, and had to drive to the brewery to get it. |

Man...I completely forgot about this thread. Had this for brunch today...DIPA from "Ass Clown". Their stuff has been getting progressively better. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7b704ce285.jpg This is my wife's current favorite...from "Burial Brewing". Don't think I've anything but excellent brews from there. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a8d7a80fae.jpg One of my work buddies has fairly regular deliveries from Tree House...usually more than he can drink on his own. I benefit greatly from this. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a4ba5af4c1.jpg |
Do any members chase the Goose Island Bourbon County Barrel Stouts? Black Friday is the release day. I didn't get into them until last year - a buddy talked me into them. No variants for me just the standards. I think there are better barrel aged stouts, but the chase probably helps with the popularity.

This was surprisingly bitter, and surprisingly absent the tartness which I expect from anything with Brett on the label. After a few sips, however, it really started to grow on me. While the flavor didn't really progress much throughout the glass, it was interestingly complex and quite satisfying. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...aa4e8d845b.png No surprises here. A simple but entirely competent interpretation of a classic style. |

Dammit! I don't have the 2018 w00t!
(Also, is that a 12oz bottle?) |
No, it's a tall boy. Just bad perspective.

There's a local shop where I found last year's release (which I still haven't opened), and I shall check there first.
|
I saw it at Total Wine last weekend as well.

Fair enough, I noticed last week, a 4-pack of 11.4oz bottles had gone from 12.99 to 18.99. That's a pretty steep hike for no discernible reason.

I have no idea where this beer came from. I mean, I know in a general sense that it had to have been given to me by someone for whom I performed mechanical / ECU-related services, but it's been at least five years since I've engaged in that sort of exchange. I might have been living in Florida or California at the time, which covers a lot of territory, both geographically and politically. (I did a lot of pro-bono work, and received a lot of beer, during the 2009-2013 timeframe.) So while I cannot remember who you are specifically, you have my thanks. It's aged well. Light, but with a nicely complex, slightly tart character which lingers on the tongue. The second pour produced a lot of sediment, which added a rich, yeasty character. Basically liquid bread. Good stuff. |

SF Beer week brought us a special treat this year.
Attachment 236677 Yes, I am an idiot and poured it before I read the can. I drank the 2nd one straight from the can and it was also excellent. |
Attention (Joe): It's that time of year again.

(W00tstout) Version 7.0, available in 22oz. bombers and 12oz. cans. Saw this on the shelf yesterday: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...cf3de27e06.png Didn't buy any, but I think they deserve an award for the best nerdcore label. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...88e3b2fb63.png Three Floyds: "Building Better Beers." I've been drinking quote a lot of this lately: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...bfb1ae6b78.png It's a wonderful gose which eschews the fruit so common in other beers of the genre, and in fact reminds me quite a lot of Lindemans Cuvée René, the first sour which I ever had, and which I believe may still be the best to this day. Off Color Brewing's "Troublesome" may be the second best, and their taproom (aka The Mousetrap) is conveniently located just a few stops from my home on the red line train. |
Space Station Middle Finger is good. Would recommend.
|
So, I've been in the same home for two years now, which of course means it's time to move. (A rolling stone gathers no moss.)
While bringing the deep-archives up to room temp in anticipation of packing them, it occurs to me that I've been dragging some of these around since I lived in Mira Mesa, c. 2010. That's a shocking amount of self-restraint. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...56e6e1883f.png What's the oldest bottle any of y'all lonely homosexual deviants are hanging onto? (I'm gonna leave that pipeworks at room temp for a while, in the hope that there may still be something alive inside of it which will make it the funkiest thing I have ever tasted.) |
We don't save, we drink. Interesting you posted this. Sept 1, was 2 years since I bought the current house myself and my much better half live in (and the 3 dogs and 1 garbage cat).
We are looking to hopefully sell this place in a couple of years. Thankfully OK is cheap, so my modest income should allow us to buy a relatively nice house on 5 to 20 acres. Just need a few extra bedrooms so I'm able to invite people down to have a glass of bourbon and smoke a joint. |

Best $14 out the door for 30 cans of beer I could've ever spent my money on. I found out about this stuff like 2 1/2 months ago, Probably went through like 11 cases so far. Try it...it's what $2.67 a 6 pack? How can you go wrong? |
@Joe Perez , good news is the new W00ts' out. (just 22oz. bombers and draft)
Bad news is it's only being distributed in CA. apparently. |
Hey, remember when this thread was a thing that existed?
Why is it that, in a time when so many people are sequestered, and alcohol consumption is allegedly skyrocketing worldwide as a result, is there not more beer in here? Just poured this: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...f41d5ccb93.png I'm a big fan of Dragon's Milk, but had never had (or even heard of) a white stout before. So I had to try it. It's interesting. I'm finding it had to describe. Nothing at all like the regular blend. It's giving me a sort of Trappist vibe. Kind of like Delerium, but a tad sweeter. It's pretty good. Not at all what I was expecting (actually, I didn't really have a solid expectation) but good none the less. |
|
Enjoying one of these tonight:
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...6d0d34a340.png From the rear label: "Aromas of light allspice, caramel, and mellow oak barrel char jump from the glass while notes of dark chocolate and toffee coat the palate, finishing with a smooth bourbon snap, rested in Four Roses barrels for 16 months" ABV: 13.25% IBU: 50 |
In an effort to go through my beer cellar, I recently pulled out this vertical tasting of the last seven years of Bourbon County, plus one of the current special editions. The general consensus (among the 6 people I coerced into it) was that the '16 was the best, followed closely by the '14 and then the '20.

Well, yet another year has passed and thus it is time for my annual reminder to @Joe Perez that the new w00tstout was just released (in 6-packs, bombers, and draft).

Thank you, sir.
Looks like the nearest stock is in Calumet City. Old people may remember this as the location of the Saint Helen of the Blessed Shroud Orphanage, as well as Ray's Music Exchange. South side... |
