Best driving songs

My list of the top 10 driving songs:
1. Heavy - Collective Soul
2. Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz
3. Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty
4. Inside Out - Eve 6
5. Let it Ride - Bachman Turner and Overdrive
6. Let the Good Times Roll - The Cars
7. Long Way Home - Supertramp
8. Heartbreaker - Pat Benetar

And IDK why, but driving at night, these songs make me shit bricks
9. Turn the Page - Metallica
10. Here I Go, Again on my Own - The Whitesnakes

My favorite thing about that list is how each one effects you differently. Belting down the highway at 110 with Heavy is 100x different than blasting down listening to Let the Good Times Roll, and for driving at night NOTHING is as epic as Turn the Page. I challenge anyone to find a better night driving song.

What's your top 10? I'm curious as to what other non-old Miata drivers are listening to as you belt along the backroads or highway.

I'm more of a techno driver...something about techno just puts me in a zone where I just focus and put my foot down

One of my favorites, Quantic - Time is the Enemy

:giggle:

I think your ipod is stuck on 1995.

 #8 made me puke a little.

I listen to whatever I am in the mood for, but honestly I haven't enjoyed driving since not long after I got the Miata. I used to cruise all the time when I had RX7's. The Miata is just too rough of a ride, too many rattles and too slow to enjoy.

I like BT - "Never Gonna Come Back Down"

Nice list, I must concede. But I still stand by what I said, though some of those come close.

And on a side note, I saw the Eagles in concert last year... Fucking epic. I've listened to all their albums about 100 times, seeing them live was one of the best experiences of my life.

And I will also concede that my iPod might be stuck in 1995, I really can't stand most new music. And I knew #8 would generate some hatred, but the drum line and guitar is so epic that if you ignore the words it's perfect.

When I drive I listen to music. When I go for a drive I listen to that bang bang exhaust.

Used to be a big black metal fan, but it got old to me. It all starts to sound the same after 10 years of listening. Still listen to Gorgoroth, Emperor and a few others every now and then to remind me why I got bored with it.

Only gangster rap and AM radio are played through my single speaker setup.

Have to agree with you there. I've got 1200 miles to drive Mon-Tues and I have Tiesto's discography ready to go. For long distances or night time driving, I find techno keeps me focused and you don't get tired of it like you would listening to rock the whole time.

For shorter cruises, though, some of my top picks would have to be:

Bush - Machinehead
Chevelle - The Red
Disturbed - Just Stop
Ra - Only (and anything else off their first album)
Trapt - Headstrong

Pretty much any decent rock/heavy alternative and techno from the last 15 years is what I usually have in the mix.

Yeah because commercial metal like Cradle of Filth is SOOOO much better :loser: :giggle: Cradle of Filth was actually who got me into black metal in the day. They literally stayed in my CD player throughout pretty much all of high school. Now a days I pretty much listen to 90's/ grunge era stuff, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, STP, ect. More than that, for the last 5 or 6 years it is mostly Japanese rock. Bands like Buck-Tick, Luna Sea, X Japan, Seikima II, Dir En Grey, L'arc en Ciel, Malice Mizer, Penecillin, Gackt, B'z, Miyavi, ect. Something about Japanese artists, they seem to put a bit more effort into their music and making it unique sounding. But I also listen to a lot of other stuff, some hip hop, r&b, techno, very little classic rock (I got tired of that shit in my childhood).

thagr81 us 12-26-2009 10:39 AM

Also...

Judias Priest - Turbo Lover

Can't forget that one. Haha!

Also, just about anything by Rob Zombie.

hustler 12-26-2009 11:00 AM

George Michael - Father Figure
Kylie Minogue - Your Disco Needs You
Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin
Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out
Cece Peniston - Finally

but my #1 favorite "cruising song" is definitely Bronski Beat - Why
Lala Song Player - Why? by Bronski Beat (yes, this is actually a man singing)
but this is good too:
