Best kit car? what would you build?

Been thinking for a while that I would like to build a kit car.
Not going to go crazy with something really expensive like a gt40, shelby daytona,(am I the only one bored by cobra replicas?)
Trying to keep it under 30K
Factory Five 818-waiting to see complete kit but advantages are the cost and ease of finding a donor, have some parts already and I am familiar with the platform. Cons no STI good stuff like hubs, tough tranny(wrx 5 speeds almost as bad as miata 5
Superlite cars Apex http://superlitecars.com/apex/ -again waiting for final styling, rear end so far ehh. Based on DSM chassis, good 4G63 motor
Superlite Nemesis http://superlitecars.com/nemesis/-light simple and potentially quite fast especially now that they have kit that offers VW TSI motor and transmission instead of hayabusa motor. Could be made street legal otherwise would need a trailer.
Maybe our very own Catfish-again familiarity and having lots of parts make it tempting
what would you build?

I am really liking the 818R, the biggest plus is the low cost and at 1800 lbs, it does not need a lot of HP to be quick. it will be released next week and then maybe some data will start to flow.

The cars you've listed are pretty radically different, so I'm not getting a solid idea as to your aesthetic preferences or design goals.

Personally, I'd lean towards a Beck / Thunder Ranch 550 or 356 (except, of course, for the horrid suspension, lackluster steering, etc.)

If I had the $$$ I would build a Factory 5 Daytona coupe. Except I wouldn't use late model running gear. I don't like 5.0's.

A friend of mine builds some very nice cars in Istanbul.
He seems to favor the Cobra.

Ozgur TAN

He drives a Miata and is a member here, as well.

These wont really be cons in a 1900lb 2WD car. The loads on the hubs and trans should be much lower in the 818.

If I had 15-20k to blow I personally would consider the 818.

Probably right about the hardware but I have some the the STI stuff. I appreciate the desire to keep it cheap too. Seems like the 818 might have a better chance of wheel to wheel racing at some point if it takes off.

Joe-just looking for a track car that I could use for a short drive to the local tracks, relatively easy to maintain and not cost 50K+

The 818 will weigh 1000lbs less than a WRX and be mid-engine rear wheel drive. Something tells me there will be no tranny or hub issues.

I am very excited about seeing the finished product on these. Of course, being 6'4", I'll never fit in one, but I have feelings too.
