best value in vodka?
Got my dad a bottle of Tito's and he approves, and that's a big deal considering he has been drinking vodka longer then most of you have been alive, tried almost every vodka available, and only drinks straight.
He drinks Tanqueray Sterling, Russian Standard, and Stolichnaya

I'm in the middle of a bottle of Select right now and I like it.

I'm a bartender and I love vodka. I swore up and down I could tell the difference between top shelf and well. I had a friend pour four different vodkas and keep track of what was what, just like mythbusters. I failed every time. That got me wondering why I was spending so much on goose when I could not tell the difference between the good stuff and the cheap ****. If you are looking for a smooth non Russian tasting vodka, you can't beat Burnetts for the price. It's about $8.50 a liter and ever so tasty. I would drink it over Stoli elite and day.

IIRC two of em sucked at IDing vodkas, but one was near spot on, including the pre-filtered and post-filtered. I do think Tito's is worth the price though!
I guess I'm fortunate that I'm not one who can tast the difference! More savings for me!!
Back from the dead!
I've been a Burnett's drinker mostly, as my initial forays into vodka drinks were all sweeter, more flavorful mixed drinks...screwdrivers/Harvey Wallbangers, cranberry juice, etc.
Then I started having the occasional vodka tonic or martini. Vodka tonics were passable, martinis were not very good. Did some reading on vodka today and picked up a fifth of Sobieski after work.
Wow.
I haven't had a lot of top shelf vodkas...Grey Goose on occasion, Stolichnaya once or twice. But Sobieski, at least compared to the memory, is pretty damned good. $13 a bottle, and it's good enough to sip over ice. A very mild initial bite, nice flavor, and a smooth finish with no burn. Aroma is nice as well, no rubbing alcoholy scent. Highly recommended.

I lived in Moscow for a few years and Russian Standard was one of the better vodkas there. Now they sell it in the states, but I don't know if it's the same product. Yuri Dolgorukii is still better. Google says it's sold in the US.
Back in college I did the frat boy britta vs. Svedka thing and to my palate the filtering really improved the cheap stuff quite a bit. If I remember correctly it didn't exactly change the flavor but it definitely took some of the bite out of it.
Filtering the cheap crap through a britta two or three times made for some very smooth drinkable vodka. In the end though the filter is destroyed (as in can't be used for water anymore). I don't know how many uses you could get out of a britta filter when filtering vodka but if you have to go out and buy a britta unit and some filters it might take a lot of vodka drinking and filtering to get your investment back...

And I notice a shortage of bourbon. A single ('though large) bottle of Gentleman Jack does not suffice. I suggest supplementing with a bottle of Maker's and a bottle of **** Creek at a minimum. Add George Dickel and Comfort (100 proof) to round out the collection if you're willing to part with the shelf space...

Rebump.
Tried Svedka, it's admirably good, but still prefer Sobieski by a nose. Wouldn't be disappointed with either, however.
Next up to try is Tito's. It'd have to be amazing for me to consider paying an additional $8 or $9 a bottle over Sobieski, but I'm willing to be persuaded.

I just had a bottle given to me of Enchanted Rock vodka recently and was amazed at how smooth it was. I believe it was pretty cheap as well. I can't stand Absolut or most ther brands straight, but this was good.
