Biggest tool ever spotted at track day!
Drove in a Porsche club HPDE yesterday. The biggest track day idiot I've ever seen was there. This guy was awesome, driving a Ferrari 355 with dealer plates still on it. He shows up with bright red sparco driving shoes, a competition suit complete with Euro sponsor patches all over it :riaa: and puts himself in the advanced class.
He gets black flagged in the 1st couple of laps and actually comes to a stop on the track for the flag.:vash: Lucky he didn't get rear ended. He comes in and gets talked to, goes out and gets flagged again. He friggin comes to a stop again on the track, actually gets out of the car and tries to talk with the corner man.:vash: :mad: :eek: He starts driving with the intermediate group after that. I lap him in a 20 minute session in my bone stock 94 C package. Next session out he's with the beginner group with an instructor in the car. Best thing was, he was talking to everybody, showing off his car, bragging about all the tracks he's driven, etc. :jerkit: Had no idea every guy there was laughing at him. If you're a rich tool, can't drive to save your life and wanna pretend you're Sterling Moss, don't go to track where people can die. Go to closest malibu Gran Prix and drive the crappy go-carts with your driving suit on.:gay: :gay::pitlab: |

I love those dude's. On my very first track day, a guy in a viper brake checked me, with the "international signal" out his window on a fucking straight...and the track marshal saw it from the grid.
I wish I heard the marshal's conversation with that guy. He ran the next session, and left the track with 4 sessions to go, lol. "Texas Motorsports Ranch" is my local country-club style track. They let the affluent members do whatever they want. I've seen totally green drivers who don't know the flags get out there, alone in track prepped vipers and: pass in corners, 4-off and not respond to marshal black flags, push me off on corner entry, and you name it. I've literally seen some dipshit business exec get into a track prepped viper, and go off on the very first corner on the track. When was the last time you saw a stock MSM get pointed by a gt2 viper...lol. |

I pulled a newbie move once at laguna seca After the finish I did a u turn and crossed over hot pit after a black flag for spinning out to get to cold pit. I did have my reasons though. I missed pit in and my car would not be able to safely do another lap without blowing the engine from overheating. As the ref talked to me my car was pissing water out the bottom and they understood my reasons

i instructed a few times in michigan. it's very frightening when you are trying toteach and you KNOW the person driving isn't listening, doesn't care, or has the red mist flying. as a rule, i NEVER touch the steering wheel from the passenger side. i have, however, reached over and turned off the ignition on a car on the front straight, that person was ignoring flags and instruction, i did it to save my ass and the asses of everyone out on the track. that guy never even made it through his first session.

Gotta admit I was pointing just about everybody by that day. My not-yet turbo'd miata just couldn't keep up with the lack of horsepower. There were some unreal serious cars there. 2 Ferrari's (one driven by a real driver) 5 newer Lotus's (one exige S- very nice) a passel of z06's, 5 GT3's, 2 supercharged S2000's and a whole lot of other high end Porsche's and Bimmers.
Track day $130, Gas $35, Missing work $150, Lapping a 355 in a bone stock 94 miata... you know the answer! Forgot to mention. The car that got the most attention, biggest topic of conversation, most photographed... was a 1966 vw bug. Has a great racing history going back to 1966. Guy hauls it behind a matching 66 vw bus. He runs in Historic races regularly. Ran in the advanced class and that little thing was quick. |

that's the toughest lesson to teach: a good driver in a lesser car is better than an average driver in a great car. you have to understand your limitations and lack of experience. it's not a race. it's a learnng experience.

I've got maybe 5 hpde's under my belt and need to spend more seat time with an instructor. I know I'm leaving a lot on the table when I'm on the track.
Heel & toe w/ the stock pedals is tough. Put some EBC reds on and they work great. Huge difference in when I have to brake and how hard it comes down from speed. The better braking just exacerbates my lack of heel/toe skills. |

Man, working in kitchens sucks. I can't ever get a friday or saturday off.

We had a guy come out to an autocross in a POS Camaro with racing stickers all over it. Claimed he was a stunt driver who had worked on 2 Fast 2 Furious. Wore a full Nomex drivers suit the whole day, even when shagging cones, 95 deg. 95% humidity. I was 3 seconds faster than him, on a 35 sec. Course, in an E-Stock Miata on street tires.
