Congrats. Still on my list of things to take care of ASAFP. What state and how gay / boring was the "class?" I've heard mixed things that it was pretty educational from some, not so much from others?

in pa it's a little bit of paperwork and a hassle going back and forth from your local police department and the county court house but there's no class you just buy it

I remember when I got my first permit. I was kind of happy too. But once that excitement wears off you'll settle down and realize that carrying a pistol is not a ******* joke. If you ever need to use it you might regret typing what you did, because it won't look too good if the shootee, his family, or your local prosecutor's office finds out and uses it against you.

Whatcha gonna be carrying? If it's that P32 you posted about previously, then you're right, you'll be busting caps. Literally, as in a "cap gun," and the bad guy is gonna be pissed if he ever realizes he's been shot. LOL just bustin your chops, don't take it too seriously (this second paragraph anyway ).

In WA state there is no test, you just pays your money and gets your permit 30 days later. In VA you have to demonstrate "competency," which apparently has a fairly broad definition since there are ways you can satisfy that requirement without ever putting rounds on target (online class). The certificate from an NRA pistol class I took back in the day was good enough. But if you don't want to deal with anything related to a permit, open carry is legal here.

We did ours in SC. My parents did theirs in FL.

SC - 8 hours of instruction including a written test and a shooting test.
FL - 4 hours of video with a written test (I don't think they touched a gun)

SC and FL have reciprocity with each other.

Our 8 hours was with a "swat team" guy (knew everything, did everything, marksman, police instructor, etc). It was a fascinating and entertaining class! The LEO told us a bunch of interesting stories about CC stuff and on the job stuff as well as a bunch of legal junk (what should you do in the Walmart parking lot, etc). We paid $125 at the door and that took care of everything. Took us 100 days to get the license.

My parents said their FL class was horrible. Waited almost an hour for one of the guys to show up so they only had about 2.5 hours of real stuff and it was mainly just a couple of video tapes.

Yeah, I think about that but it would be pretty plain to see that I am just ******* around (you hear that judge - I'm a slack *** that will post about anything - you do know I had sex with your wife, right?).

Yes, I will be carrying the P32 with a laser (you may have seen the pictures). There was a guy who killed the bad guy with one a few weeks ago in Columbia, SC (lawyer who was in a stick up after an AA meeting). Shot the scum three times (chest, arm, neck). I guess it is more shot placement and luck than anything else because I have read news stories about people getting shot 5 times with a 45 and still beating the hell out of the guy who shot them.

In all seriousness, I think the CWP will have the effect of making me more aware of my surroundings as well as making me "feel safer" when I am at Walmart at 3AM. My wife got hers as well (also will carry a P32). I feel better with her carrying. She got 100% on her shooting test which means she will probably miss all 7 shots when it gets in a life or death situation. But at least she will go out with a bang and not a wimper!

Oh, wanted to say that I shot a sweet *** Kimber 1911 Eclipse the other day. The gun was fantastic and those 45s were dead on everytime I pulled the trigger (put 3 of them in a quarter sized circle at about 10 yards) without really even taking my time to aim correctly. Incredible gun but there is no way I could ever carry that thing. I bought the P32 because I will never leave it at home. It will be on me at all times with few exceptions like work, jury duty (I am on the grand jury for the next 2 years), etc. The first rule of a gun fight is to make sure you have a gun <G>.

I hear trash talking about smaller caliber firearms and it always makes me laugh. You can kill someone with a BB gun with a little bit of luck. Just because its not a ******* .50 DE doesn't mean it won't stop someone or make them dead.

Pump 8 - 10 rounds of a 32 into someone and I don't think they'll be aggressive anymore. I could be wrong, though.

You ever price Kimber arms? Most SWAT teams carry them as sidearms. Shouldn't say "most" more like "many." Incredible pistols!!

The guy said he paid $1800 for the pistol. If I pay that much I want a Desert Eagle .50 <G>

One hundred days to get the permit?!? Holy **** on a shingle, that is ridiculous. In the age of electronic background checks, there is no reason it should take that long. Thirty days is reasonable to give the human part of the paper pushing some time to get it done, and even then, it's usually the more liberal places that want to delay your right to self defense for as long as possible that take the full time. In King County (Seattle) they certainly took their sweet *** time and it arrived in my mailbox on the 30th day as allowed by state law. Here in NoVA it was 27 days. But in more "red" areas of the same states people routinely get their permits in 7-14 days. I thought SC was pretty gun-friendly. Is that not the case?

I fired a buddy's Springfield TRP at the range once. Problem with shooting a good 1911 is that the less expensive ones really seem crappy afterwards. I have a mil-spec and it's okay but the trigger is gritty as hell and shows no sign of smoothing out. It needs a trigger job but if I send it out for that, I'll want all kinds of other stuff done to it too. A 1911 can be a real money pit, but one that's tuned just right is a thing of beauty.

A combination of things made it take so long. There was a huge surge of people getting permits and SC laid off half the people in the SLED division that did the paperwork due to budget cuts.

But yeah, SC is gun friendly. We just passed (not sure how long ago) a "no retreat" clause as part of the castle doctrine law meaning you no longer have the obligation to continually back up before you fire your weapon. It is your duty to put the bad guy down depending on the circumstances. He's was in your house - shoot him in the back from 25 yards away as he is running and you are fine. HE broke the law and you can protect yourself. As of our CC class (early March) the law had not been tested. It used to be that if the bad guy was coming at you with a baseball bat in the parking lot you had to continue to back up and try to get away from him (retreat) until you were backed into a corner. The bad guys just lost that benefit.

Situational awareness will help you much more than a gun. Your brain is a much more effective self-defense/offensive weapon than a tool. Be careful out there and avoid the trouble before it begins.

I wouldn't disagree with that at all. But, how does your brain help you when you break down in BFE in the middle of the night?

In a subsequent interview with 1UP.com on June 5, 2008, Jason Hall described the game as "amazing" with the summation, "This might be the only game in history worth waiting 12 years for, perhaps longer.... It was good."
