Blender Defender

Blender Defender

"Have a cat that won't stay off your counters? I do. I finally got fed up with it enough to do something about it: scare the crap out of him with a motion-detecting blender (while recording the results for my own amusement, of course). "

NA6C-Guy 03-17-2010 02:31 AM

 That would scare me too probably. A blender starting up suddenly and a strobe light.

Awesome prank to pull on some drunk kids I know. Oh nevermind just seen the prices, I'll have to improvise.

poor kittie. the cartoon is great.

I'm glad you posted this.

Just recently switched my kitty to a better quality dry food that is available all the time to her, but also gets canned food once a day also. Since I started the canned food and she sees where I keep it (on the counter, Fool!) seems she thinks its okay to get on the counter again. A battle that took me months to win because I could HEAR her jumping down, but never catch her in the act.

Mwhaha.

After my cat fell off our loft's banister he wasn't stupid enough to try it again.

Said thing was he jumped down to come see me...luckily I caught him, sadly I damaged my laptop as I jumped up and it fell to the floor (HDD died, CD-ROM died, Shell cracked).

I'd prefer an airsoft gun setup that tracks the cat mid air as it jumps up on the counter, akin to the Phalanx Anti-ship missile defense system, pelting the cat with such a multitude of rubber BBs that they decide, before their feet even hit the ground, that they'll never even think about jumping on the counter again.

Wow.

I don't even think I'd do that for my kid.

Braineack 03-17-2010 09:11 AM

I love cats.

However I must say there is a cat in my neighborhood that might have all 9 of its lives snuffed out soon. I find it time and time again on my cars. No big deal, right? Yeah. Except the rear 1/4 of my brand new Speed6 needs to be repainted now, because that little fucker slid off the side and put 5 HUGE scratches down it. To the SHEET METAL!

Then we come back to my place in Crnrhrd's car to pickup something. We're not in my house for 4 minutes when we come back out to find that same bastard cat posted up in the middle of his hood. Of course it spooked the cat and off he goes, scratching the shit out of his hood.

About the best thing I've found to keep a cat off your car from the net is the following:

Lay down a protective sheet on the car then cover it with 40 or 50 set spring loaded mouse traps. Cover those with a standard car cover and wait.

A version of the Blender Defender for cars would be pretty similar. Maybe the horn goes off along with the 4 ways and a strobe. It could be pressure sensitive on the hood and trunk and only be active when the ignition is totaly off.

That video from 10/17 in particular is awesome! I know what I will be doing this weekend: Getting drunk, watching Sebring (WOOT) and building one of these.

Duct tape.

Lay out strips of it around the perimeter of the vehicle, sticky-side-up.

My cats have learned that if they jump in the tub in the master bathroom and look at me with that sad face, I'll turn the faucet on and let them drink out of it. Now it's come to a point where if I even walk in the bedroom, they go running into the bathroom and into the tub. So yesterday I snuk up to the bathroom to take a shower. But this time I closed the door, turned the shower on and while the shower was warming up, I filled up the tub with about 1" of water...then I opened hte bathroom door and jumped into the shower. About 2 seconds later the cats com running into the bathroom and jump up on the rim of the tub. They could sense something was different with the tub and just sat there looking at it.

Dammit. I thought I would be a sneaky asshole and get them.

So one of the cats goes and sits on the counter, the other jumps up on the ledge by the shower. Well, cat on the counter gets back down o nthe rim of the tub. She is simply to curious and MUST get into that tub. So she does the whole iffy-ish lean down with the front paws.....and jump. HAHAHAHAHAHAH I WIN! Cat freaks out and starts trying to jump out, but her wet paws get no traction and she looks liuke a frog trying to jump out of a bucket....jump...slide...jump...slide. She finally got out and ran off :giggle:

I need to get video next time.

My other cat like to get on the counter and rub her face on the can opener...activating it......repeatitively.

Dark cat = suckered into tub, light cat = remote can opener operator

I have a DIY electric shock pad for when my little shit-of-a-cat decides to hop on the fridge and mark some territory... He hasnt done it in a while now.

All you need is four 6-volt batteries, cardboard, wire, loud buzzer from radioshack, and some foil.

Seeing how my cat pees on the wall while on the fridge, I lined the wall with some foil, making a small drain-ish lip on the bottom edge, which leads to a foil-made funnel that is aimed to a foil cup, then wrapped a piece of cardboard with foil and placed it on top of the fridge, then make a foil cup attached to the pad to catch the piss. Of course basic wiring skills used, I just made the fridge pad a negative connection, and the wall piece a positive, so when that certain little shit pees, he either completes the connection through his piss stream to him, or it will complete itself with the fluid draining to the cup, so if he doesnt get shocked, the buzzer will go off.

heh, it sounds like a school project, but when you hear a cat freaking out and a loud thud on the tile floor is heard followed by kitty-cat "burn out" running, its victory.
