Blue Staters: Teach me Ocean City, MD

Any of you liberal blue staters familiar with Ocean City?

We are living it up in MD for a week, and I was wondering if anyone familiar with the area could recommend places to eat and things to do (considering it's going to rain half the week...).

Our initial plan was to mostly just go to the beach, but since the weather is likely to be sh*tty for the first half of the week we might need some other activity ideas.

Also, restaurants. My wife has looked at the urbanspoons, etc. but we haven't found a whole lot of good info. What are some good restaurants in the area? Are there any places that aren't overly expensive? Any places in ~40 minutes driving that are better?

And lastly, anyone know about fishing excursions in the area? We are interested in doing some sort of fishing outing, either bayside or oceanside. Anyone know of a good outfit for that sort of shenanigans? We have no fishing gear, so we would need to pay for an all inclusive fishing trip thingy.

Any input and advice would be greatly appreciated.

If no one answers we'll just sit at the beach all week, and eat over-priced food close to our rental. Bummer...

;)

I went to Ocean City a few years back. Unfortunately, it was to visit my dad's stepbrother, so he took us fishing in his boat (so I can't comment on fishing companies) and they pretty much handled the food (I don't remember any restaurants by name). So I'm pretty much useless.

I know one night we got a LOT of blue crab from somewhere, and it was delicious. It was the first time I'd ever eaten blue crab. So I would recommend at least trying that.

Do dinner at Fayger's Island. Make sure to plan it in such a time to see the sunset. It's fun:

This music is actually that loud and playing in the dining room. Very good food.

Here's places I've gone to:
Harborside (Kinda a dive, not the greatest good, but a nice spot on the Harbor)
Crab alley (for bussels of crabs)
Tequila mockingbird (pretty good mexican)
Fager's island (there's a fnacy dining room and a drunkard bar)
Waterman's seafood co (I got a lobster dinner here, wasn't incredibly impressed)

they overcooked it.
mackey’s (always liked Mackey's; perfect for lunch)
liquid assets (fancy wine and cheese place)
sunset grille (it's always full of gray hairs and it's a little stale, but the food is usually really good. Last year I wasnt as impressed.)

fish tales (had a good soft shelled crab sandwhich; good for lunch)

Big Pecker's Bar & Grill (they have swinging chairs/tables outside with misting spray, kinda fun, decent enough food, not beachside or anything cool in that regard)

Breakfast:
Dumsters
Commander Hotel (breakfast is o.k. but it is on a deck overlooking the ocean and boardwalk)
Breakfast Bills (a little cafe; Good breakfast but probably not worth the gas unless you are going to Ocean Pines area anyway)

Subs:
ANTHONY'S
Billy's subs
Mike's PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS

Pizza:
GROTTO'S (up in Delaware - you'd probably like the Rehoboth Beach area ;) )
Lombardi's pizza (good local pizza)

Places I haven't been:
GALAXY 67 (supposed to be fun and good, I've seen it, just never been yet)
SHIPWRECK ROAD (supposed to be good for wine and more sunset views on the bay)
SEACRETS (good for lunch, becomes a rowdy bar/beach party at night IIRC)

For using the term "[color]-staters" what you should do in MD is walk into the Altlantic.

I think he was being nice; I refer to it as Murderland. That reminds me I'm going into a bad part of Murderland tonight...wish me luck.

I'm sorry, I'm terrible at following up on my own threads.

Real quick though, we did go to Faygers for dinner one night. Food was pretty good (not amazing for the price) and the service was good. Super disappointed it was cloudy that evening, missed out on epic sunset. 1812 Overture was played obnoxiously loud but it is part of the ambiance and it was fun.

I had Swordfish, it was pretty good. My wife had the filet with a tempura lobster tail. Steak was amazing, tempura lobster was borderline bad. Mother-in-law had the fish of the day, I forget what it was but she said it was very good. Father-in-law had an appetizer and soup for dinner, I also forget but he was pleased. My 2 year old son behaved amazingly and all of the waitresses fawned over him.

I can follow up more later, gotta run for now.

Super belated, but big thanks to everyone for their input.
