Yep, about 99% of D series parts will work for all D series motors!! If you take out the oil squirter in the block you can run a D16y8 "VTAKK" head/ECU. Thats a common swap good for a few ponies and pretty cheap too! Search "mini me swap".

I had a chance to buy a black 98 Acura 1.6EL with a turbo kit on it for $3000.00
beautiful car... its like a civic with more bells and whistles.
I love it... never got it though, the guy ended up keeping it, it was pretty quick with the D-series turbo though...220whp

Hell, some D series parts work on B series engines too. I was using the original D16A6 distributor on my B series in my CRX (and the original ECU too if you ignore that I had it re-formatted...).

They are all the same from inception on. I used a D15B2 (DX motor) short block for my HF because the crank/rods in the D15B6 (HF motor) are different and rare. The rods are apparently wider.... So I rebuilt the B2 shortblock and just strapped on the B6 head.

As far as turboing on the cheap, get the stock HF manifold and bolt a t3 onto it with a cheap adapter plate. Then just fab a dp that connects to the stock exhaust. If you play your cards right you can do it all for sub $1k. Then just chip an ecu and get someone to tune it.

The interchangablility of parts on honda motors is astounding!

The chipable ECU is a OBD1 92-95 P28 I think.

It's only rare because it was not sold in the U.S. It's not rare in Canada.

So I bought the car.

Since buying it I've:
- fixed the noisy tranny bearing
- polished the headlights
- put in poly shifter bushings
- modified the AC by adding a resistor to the t-stat to make it colder
- Seafoamed it
- adjusted the valves
- inspected the (new) timing belt
- cleaned the engine bay

Am I weird? I have a 320 whp M3 and this cheap and cheerful car warms my heart.

Not weird at all. My previous toy was a 600plus rwhp turbo mustang, this mazdaspeed miata is far more enjoyable. My domestice car friends don't get it.
