I couldn't believe when the pilot thought he wouldn't be able to take off.

y8s 02-02-2008 10:07 PM

yeah, maybe if the planes wheels drove it.

SamS 02-02-2008 10:09 PM

Then it wouldn't be a plane :gay:

n.

What I want to know is: If a lowered Civic on 21s are standing on a huge grease slide outside Bojangles: How much JDM does it take before the Lambo-doors makes all the other cars on the street fly away? The grease slide is created by frying oil, baby oil and JDM oil from the civic. The Civic is equipped with 43 speakers, 7 air fresheners, 1 pizza delivery sign, 1 1.8 meter high JDM wing, 4 fake air intakes, 1 unpainted body kit and a has a total weight of 2.1 metric tons.

i was LITERALLY rolling on the floor laughing. GENIUS
I salute you, good sir.

miatamania 02-04-2008 04:32 PM

However, I salute you on your JDMness.

im too lazy to download that answer but i can say that it will be close to impossible for plate to take off. planes fly because of pressure difference between top and down of the wings. if you look at wing from the side you will see that it has a curve to it. thats to create lower pressure on top and higher pressure on bottom - thats what keeps them from falling

well... i didnt think about airspeed and groundspeed :/

Joe Perez 12-14-2013 01:22 PM

So, back in 2006 I posted the following:

A Cessna 172, if I remember correctly, will rotate at around 60 KIAS, and experience best climb at about 80 KIAS. So let's say that N6066R is sitting on the ramp, tied down loosely. A hurrinane begins to blow, and the airplane is oriented such that it is facing into the wind. When the wind speed reaches 60 knots, the airplane will rotate. By the time the wind gets up to 80, the airplane will be completely off the ground, doing it's very best to climb against the ropes.

In essence, it will be flying with zero groundspeed.

It was subsequently pointed out that I was slightly off on the exact numbers, but the fundamental concept remained valid. unfortunately, I had no way to prove this to the non-believers.

Until now:

I believed you the first time. Made perfect sense. Would have been nice if they had the nose wheel tethered on a long rope.
