The wife and I had a non-slip rug pad underneath a rug in our living room for about 5 months... and this is what it did.

Yup, our living room has a brick floor... pretty cool. But this shiz will not come off. The bricks are sealed, but it's like the pad painted itself onto the bricks. We've scrubbed with different pads, and used Goo-Gone and mineral spirits. It gets the large chunky white shiz off pretty good, but there is still the dark imprint of the outline of the pad.

The grout in between the bricks is no problem, stuff comes off completely.

How do I clean this stuff off without using an industrial stripper and vacating the house for a few days?

Goo-gone has been more effective than WD40 and Mineral spirits actually... it's getting it all off except the stuff that's actually impregnated. This is what's leading me to believe we're actually going to have to tell our landlord and get permission to get a professional in here to use an industrial agent of some sort and re-seal it. The scrubbing is very labor intensive... really sucks.

I'm going to try TSP though, never heard of it. Good suggestion.

I've thought about an orbital, but it's really rough. The pics I showed don't do justice to the "rough-ness" of the overall surface. The guy at HD recommended a small hand-held vibrating sander, of which I've got a couple. It's worth a shot.

That mat stuff is made from polypropylene so xylene or toluene should make it at least mushy. Too bad that PP is so chemically resistant.

Rent one of those large floor buffers. They have pads for them that are basically one large green scrubby. Coarse enough to to the labor part, and anything that softens the residue will do the job. They take a bit of practice to use without running into things, so start in the middle until you get the hang of it.

The brick will just tear up any scrubbing machine pad. Also, do NOT sand it down. You'll ruin it, it will be much ligher color, and worst of all smooth.

Use a better graffiti remover. Brillo pad, or a more harsh scrub pad.

I'd say power washer, but inside that would not be ideal.

Our attempts at scrubbing have been extreme. I'm 6'4" and 240lbs... and I've been using the coarsest **** you can find at home depot with the chemicals already listed. I'm pretty sure the solution to this is the right chemical... going to check on masonry specific grafitti removers and toulene (any leftover is going into the Speed6).

denatured alcohol is way more powerful than mineral spirits and goo gone.

i used that **** to turn a paint splattered hardwood floor into something not shitty.

just ventilate well or you'll get very stupid very fast.

it's basically methanol if you have that around.

No chemicals, no mess, just use a blanket to mask overspray.

3M adhesive remover. It works. Also heat gun.
