Anyone here have one or used one before that you could recommend?

The place my girl and I are renting is a cottage with no standard sized widows to fit a regular style ac unit in. The windows downstairs are all 10'x6' sun windows and the ones upstairs are tall narrow ones that open with a crank.

I did some research on them and it seems that some of them use a drain tube to vent the water and hot air to the outside, and some of them have a bucket that you empty like a dehumidifier. I'm thinking we need one with a bucket cause I'm not sure how I would get the vent tube outside without going through one of the doors, thus letting in hot air from outside.

When we went to sleep last night at midnight it was 84 degrees inside, and I cant ******* handle it much longer like that. Working outside all day and then coming home to a oven sucks. I really need to cool this place down and ASAP!!

buy one that is rated bigger then you need. it will cool the area faster and keep it cooler, it will help resale and you can use it later in a bigger area. i bot a 10,000 for a 1 car garage and it should have been enough but it wasn't.

Ugh, no way I could live like that. I have no experience with them but I would buy the biggest and most powerful one you can afford.

We bought a $400 10,000 BTU Sharp rolling unit for the music studio. It's on wheels so you can roll it wherever you want, and has a hot air outlet hose and a water tank with an optional drain hose. The ability to select between routing a rubber tube out the window or just emptying the water tank is nice. It does the job nicely, and looks good too.

any decent portable should have the option to route a hose and use a bucket. (and also have an auto cutoff switch if the bucket fills up)

The one I have has a single hose that goes outside for hot air.

In my mind, that means this sucks hot air into the house from the outside to fill in for the hot air that is being thrown outside, which in theory is somewhat bad, and kind of makes me want 2 hoses, and inlet and an outlet, for the hotside. But when I consider that maybe doing the 2 hose method might mean asphyxiation, maybe 1 hose isn't so bad after all...but that's why you want a portable A/C rated for an area considerably larger than what you intend to cool.

Ha my A/C was out for a week last month. Was 97* at midnight in my house. Try living in Arizona.

Man you guys live in a different world. I dont know a single person who has AC in their house in this area.

We sell tons of portable AC units at Costco. Just please dont use it for the summer then return it like 50% of the people who buy them do.

There are fewer and fewer people anymore who understand how *NOT* to be freeloaders or asshats. The big warehouse stores will understand soon enough why major retail has begun collecting 'restocking fees' on opened merchandise...these fucktards have already ruined it for the rest of us.

I had to break down and purchase an a/c unit 2 summers ago. I live in the upstairs of my dads house, which is basically the attic, since half of the walls are sloped with the roof, so when the sun shines on the roof, it really makes it hot inside. Each room upstairs only has 1 small vent for a/c and heat, so in the summer time it would get ridiculous up here. I was juggling either a portable, or a permanent window/wall unit, and after research I went with the Samsung wall unit. Now I stay nice and cool even when it's 97 and humid out, like it is right now. Before without it, it would probably be in the 80's up here, and humid. NOT comfortable living. Instead it's blasting on 70 and I am perfectly happy. I got a good deal on the Samsung too, I think it was like $240 for an 11,000BTU unit. Everything else in that range was nearly 2x as much.

Happened to me last summer, we bought two window units, had to install them sidewayz since I have sliding windowz and then returned them later.


If they offer to take a return up to 30 days, even if used (I asked), I'm taking advantage of it when the fate of my kitties is at hand.
