Cali emissions and car laws suck! I hear they're now talking about bringing carbs and same emission laws here to WA.

kung fu jesus 07-16-2006 09:45 PM

well, not bragging, but in charlotte my '92 only needs a visual inspection. they dropped the emissions on OBD1 cars this year. you can't chuck a quarter here without it landing on a race shop or some company affliated or manufactures racing products. :)

I still wonder why everyone with modded cars in CA don't all garthered in front of the captial and get some action because its fucked up when a moded car that can truly pass emission gets fix it tickets, yet everyone knows that most of the old muscle cars could be completely modded and a cop wouldn't raise a hand.

CARB is the main reason that after I graduate for Animation, I will never take a job in CA, well that, and cost of living.

good luck everyone in Cali

They pop your hood, pretend to know what they're looking for, pretend to see it, nod, then close hood. You can see it in their eyes, they're clueless.

There's the story of one guy who asked the emissions guy what he was looking for under the hood. He replied "I don't know, we're just supposed to look under there."

My previous car had so many reasons to (technically) fail, but they never caught on to any of them.

Stock, modded, whatever. They pay $ (a joke) per hour, so who do you think works there?

Basically, if you can pass the sniffer test, (or whatever it's called) you're good.

UofACATS 07-17-2006 12:45 AM

Uh-oh, emissions time, gotta swap back to "legal" for three hours.

Right. The fundamental reason for emissions is to reduce excessive vehicle pollution. That's the goal. Cleaner. This is good, I agree.

What's F-up is how it got to the point where that principal has been lost.

Replace a working cat converter? Nope. Illegal. What if the new cat works better than the old one? Sorry, here's your ticket.

Do they really care? How about a competent emissions staff then? It seems to me like it's more about "following the rules," no matter the logic, and of course, the $.

Bottom line: The only thing that needs to be tested is what comes out the tailpipe.

magnamx-5 07-17-2006 01:20 AM

i fully agree. Lets nuke the red states or atleast get rid of Carb. and pigs with chips on there shoulders. yeah my 67 chevy never gets any attention from cops no matter what but in anything else miata included cops seem to see under 25 and potential felony/misdemeanor in progress+ no money or time to hire a real lawyer and make them look stupid. They are just about always wrong on all ocunts but they keep trying for some reason. While there buddys down a six pack at there place and drive of ina cloud of smoke unimpuned or uninhibited by the paranoia of (the cops could get me, nah my buddys a cop and they know me) sometimes the stupidity and favortism of our current systems astound me.

xwade01 07-17-2006 02:29 AM

Well I really do think it's bs that CA is cracking down hardcore on this non-sense pathetic lame of excuse to impound or pull people over. I'm over here in Iowa and we don't have any inspections or no cop has ever looked under any of the hoods i've seen of the cars that has been modified. I'm really glad all that bs hasn't reached here yet, and when it does, we'll all be screwed!

I can think of better places to spend $5mil of the peoples' money.

Sounds like a money maker to me rather than a concern for the saftey of the public at large.

and to the asian guy in that article, welcome to the wonderfull world of DWB (Driving while brown)

Not to be an asshole, but welcome to last year. I'm pretty lucky in the respect that I don't receive any harrassment (yet) and I have an obviously modified car. Aftermarket EVERYTHING and a 2.5 inch exhaust soon. I have the pillar gauges, not stock wheels, black TSI's, a VTA BOV, etc.,etc... even paint! PLUS I'm Asian and in that age demographic that the CHP is targeting.

+1 i won't return calls or emails for job offers in CA. close friend of mine and his wife moved to L.A. about 3 years ago. he has two degrees and 10 years experience, she has a masters from Brown. together, they can barely afford to buy a POS house.

no thanks.

i moved to the S.E. from the north and am loving it.

Thank GOD for Tennessee. At least we don't have to put up with a bunch of monkey fuckin a football like Californians do. Even though some parts of TN have emission laws (SBrain2 and I live in the same town) they are not as stringent as those slapnuts. I'm hoping the next big earthquake breaks it off and lets it float into the ocean:gtfo:
