it's because they know if they get hurt, it's not an out of pocket expense.

Aaand cue the excuses. ;)

I enjoy my free healthcare services, thank you very much!

:D

elesjuan 02-28-2010 06:08 PM

Okay, like 2/3rds of the American Hockey team players are Canadians and play professionally.. Right, like we're going to win against that.

Canada sucks anyway.

Braineack 02-28-2010 06:10 PM

seriously, why do people like hockey all of a sudden? EVeryone I know is suddenly a Captials fans because a local team is finally doing good. I just learned there are only 3 periods.

falcon 02-28-2010 06:16 PM

I`ve always been a hockey fan and play myself...

and Elesjuan... you know every player on the US team plays professionally as well, right..

you obviously didn`t watch the game. It was extremely close and came to a sudden death goal in overtime.

lol..

It happens every year man.. and Vancouver is known to be one of the WORST when it comes to hopping on the bandwagon. I know all about it.

m2cupcar 02-28-2010 06:18 PM

Started playing at age 5. :D And never played again after college.

That was an intense game. Very good hockey.

elesjuan 02-28-2010 06:20 PM

I'm only pissed my local IHL team got cut years ago.. Fuckers.

Uhm, actually yes I did watch the game and yes it was pretty damn close. So if your canucks are SOOOO much better, how did we even score a goal (muchless TWO!) and take it >5 minutes into sudden deathmatch?? HMMMMMM???

No, you've misunderstood. Most of the American NHL players that I know of are Canadians.... :hustler:

Not like I care, I'm just here to fuel your RAGE fire.. :crx:

falcon 02-28-2010 06:24 PM

Ahh.. ok... lol Where did I say the nucks were better. I just said Vancouver fans are the worst for hopping on, and then off the bandwagon.

Anyways, whatever. I just thought I would try to stir some shit :D

Canada now holds the record for most gold medals by a host country as well as most gold medals by any one country in the winter olympics. And as much as you Americans always say `Canada sucks`... I know it dosen`t and wouldn`t live anywhere else (especially here in Vancouver) and that`s all that matters to me.

I can say I'm jealous of your weather right now. 40* Here. Ready for spring like 2 weeks ago.

It goes the other way around too. The ski season here has been TERRIBLE... on the one year we host the Olympics.

But... I`ve been out riding (my motorcycle) earlier this year than any other in the past 5. It`s been over 10* (Celsius) regularly for the past few weeks. Normally it`s snowing on the mountains.

And I think someone already poked fun at the healthcare system up top. It`s not all free. I had to fork out a whopping $120 for a cavity filling last week. ;)

Shhhhhhhhhhh!

Sure its free, I dont think any of the 50% of my income that they take goes to any of that..lol.

Great game, as it always is when the two best hockey countires get together.

M-Tuned 02-28-2010 07:46 PM

Wicked Game.. I'm glad with the outcome.. I normally get to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs and they just SUCK!!!!

GO CANADA GO!!!!

Thats about what I paid to have my gallbladder removed in 2005... Did I mention the insurance wasn't provided by my employer, I paid out of pocket for it.. ;)

stranges12712 02-28-2010 07:56 PM

$120? Holy, dont you have benefits?

Unfortuntaley at this time, no. I just turned 22 and no longer qualify to be covered under my Dad`s extended. And my current employer is a douche and dosen`t feel he should have a medical plan.

And a gallbladder would be free for me... even without benefits. ;)

But lets not get into a healthcare argument... they never turn out well. There are positives as well as negatives to our system. It`s good, but not great. I do enjoy the fact that if I ever needed chemo or a large operation after say, a car accident I wouldn`t be in debt $30,000 for it.

Our 1984 Olympic swim team beat that in gold alone: 21 gold swimming medals.

Just saying that our 1984 squad got more gold medals in one discipline than ALL of Canadia did for the 2010 games. Heck, that wasn't even counting the number of silver and bronze medals the U.S. swimming teams got.

But you're right....the Summer Olympics are a lot more popular and more competitive than the Winter Olympics (in most parts of the world).

Silly Canuckistanian.

You realize that the 14 golds, is the most EVER in Olympic history, right? Last time I checked, the USA has been competing in teh winter Olympics as long as we have. If you're so great, how come you don't hold the record?

Canada has never been great at the Summer Olympics... that I know and admit.

And it's "Canadian"... you "Americanese"... :loser:

falcon 03-01-2010 01:59 PM

Oh, and I apologize from all Canadians for Nickelback, Simple Plan and Hedley that played at the closing ceremonies last night.

cueball1 03-01-2010 02:06 PM

Long time hockey fan.

That was a fantastic hockey game. Back and forth and incredibly few stoppages of play. Both teams played hard from start to finish and it was a nail biter. I was torn about which team to root for too. USA for national pride and slight underdog status. Team Canada had 5 players I'd watched play, grow up and get drafted from major juniors though. Iginla, Morrow, Marleau, Niedermeyer and Luongo.

One of the best games I've seen.

Holy crap those medals are ugly as sin though. Gangsta rappers wouldn't even wear shit that big and ugly. Looked like someone (or some country) was overcompensating with the design of those abominations.

Yeah, I got the part about 14 golds for WINTER games is a record. I was making a point, you braggart, that the U.S. swim team had more golds in one discipline than Canada did in all the events.

It's people like you that ruin Canadia for the rest of the world. Go eff yourself and choke on some elk dick.

falcon 03-01-2010 02:37 PM

And you are bragging too... ;)

What can I say, I'm proud of my country and happy that we beat you at something for once. Let me revel in it for a bit, and in a few weeks it will be old news.

Have you ever turned around and looked at yourself as a country? You say I'm bragging.. the USA is the supreme king at that. "USA is greater and better than everyone!, We are the greatest country EVAR!" etc... and constantly make fun of and belittle not only Canada, but many other countries in the world. So you go suck a fat one. Hypocrite. For once Canadians are showing some national pride, which is rare and we get slammed for it.

Ya, everyone up here thinks the same as well. Not to mention the "broccoli" looking bouquets they handed out. They're supposed to be west coast ferns, leaves etc... but I think they look like food.

Figure skating ice dance (Virtue and Moir), sorry.

And regarding bragging, I'm proud of my country. I've never belittled your beloved Canada, except individuals (such as yourself). I root for Canada in many instances. You guys are our neighbors.

You generalize and call me a hypocrite, when all I've done was point out that our swimmers earned more golds, as a host nation, in one discipline (swimming) than all Canada earned in this Winter Olympics. I was proud for all the Olympians, save Plushenko who didn't seem to embrace the Olympic spirit.

BTW, Canada doesn't suck, but your spelling does! It's "doesn't", not "dosen't".

cueball1 03-01-2010 03:13 PM

No one has pointed out that the USA came in second better than anyone! We killed when it came to silver medals. We're number two! We're number two! We're number two! Go USA.

Great Britain really kicked butt though. 1 gold. Nada bronze and silver. I got my medal, I'm going home. GB out.

Unfortunately our neighbors to the south got blanked yet again. Sorry Mexico.

falcon 03-01-2010 03:20 PM

Sorry if I've put you into that category. I just have had a lot of bad experiences with Americans over the years and tend to generalize. When you jokingly said what you said to me it just makes you sound like all the other Americans I've met. If that's not the case, then I apologize.

What about Dale Begg-Smith? Anyone see him on the podium? He looked bored with is silver. Kind of sad to say he is originally from Canada.

Yes! The USA is number 1... at coming 2nd... ;)

Pretty hefty total metal count though. Over the last 2 weeks SO MANY Canadians choked. I think we were number 1 in top 5 finishes or something.

I think most Americans are ashamed of those that make us look bad internationally. Just like some French are embarrassed of the stereotypical snobbish Parisian.

falcon 03-01-2010 03:52 PM

It may also be that I've never been to the east coast. I've heard people are a lot more friendly out there. My only experience is in WA, OR, CA and Utah. I'd say about %75 of the people I've ran into made some kind of snide remark about Canada... It also shocks me how many people think we live in some vast tundra in igloos (yes, even people in Seattle.. a mere 2 hours south of us).

Leaves a bad taste it your mouth and I avoid crossing the border as much as I can. I've just gotten tired of trying to defend Canada. Especially to the ignorant who have a) never been here and b) don't even know where we are.

And yes, you're right about Quebec. My personal opinion on that, is if they don't want to be part of the country then fuck 'em. But the only problem with letting them become independent is it splits up Canada into 2 pieces which no one is fine with.

cueball1 03-01-2010 04:00 PM

It's the US West Coast that's known for being friendly! I'd guess most of those snide comments were intended to be funny. You Canadians have no sense of humor eh? Too much schmoking the good stuff.
