Can't wait until this track is built!

Supposedly the track will be on par if not better than VIR. IIRC the owner of VIR is part investor. Plus, Carroll Shelby just signed on as a consultant!

that is so damn sick.

y8s 09-12-2007 01:30 PM

not bad, only 3 hours from the district.

TurboTim 09-12-2007 01:35 PM

Does that mean it's gonna take big money to run there?

cueball1 09-12-2007 01:40 PM

Nice for the rich enthusiast. Your membership of $2400 per year and $5000 initiation gets you about zip from what I can tell. Only gives you access. To drive the track it's another $150 a day. Oh, you do get priority on where you set up in the paddock. Woo hoo. Great parking spot for $7400.

That shit kills me. I want to go find a large piece of property here in TN that some broke ass farmer is selling because the government won't pay him enough for his tabacco. Then buy a used motor grader and a dozer and do all my own dirtwork. Call my buddies back home and rent paving equipment while I sweet talk the hot plant owner into giving me a deal on the asphalt. It wouldn't be a huge track but i bet a 1 to 1.5 mile track would be possible and relatively affordable to maintain.

Eh screw it. I'll stick to autocross. lol

save money, make it a dirt rallycross.

cjernigan 09-12-2007 02:17 PM

I'd never race my miata on a dirt track though and that's part of the point. Guess i could buy that cheap white one and rally that old hag. There are two oval dirt tracks within 20 miles of me and a 1/8 mile drag. Then nashville has the motorspeedway but i've never been around that. When i looked into track time at road atlanta, a weekend was like $600 for saturday and sunday. Only way I could afford track time would be HPDEs and they're still $$$. Gonna have to wait till i'm out of school i suppose.

Sure, they are going to have expensive garages and exclusive track time for rich members, but just like any other track, there will be HPDEs, etc... IIRC, making sure it was not just an exclusive "rich" people track was a prerequisite to them getting all the approvals. We'll see I guess.

devin mac 09-12-2007 02:57 PM

yeah, at the very least it should end up being another venue for clubs like BMW and COM to hold events at. looks like it'll be a killer track, too.

cueball1 09-12-2007 03:16 PM

I just find it hard to believe that as a $7400 member it still costs another $150 a day to run. Most track days here at PIR are less than that without any membership costs involved. It looks like it will be a great facility but they are going for the rich crowd.

I doubt they will have ANY affordable club days. That would just piss off the members. Gee, why'd we pay all this money?

Arkmage 09-12-2007 08:35 PM

I wonder if they could use a trackside engineer... that looks like one hell of a course layout.

Seriously. There is so much cheap land here in east TN and so many motorsports enthusiasts (and lots of tourist enthusiasts, thanks to deal's gap) that it's insane we don't even have so much as a kart-track. They can be tiny and cheap. We have some of the best roads in the country that could make anyone into a corner carver, and no legal place to find a release. I would probably take up karting and I would have a place to ride my motorbike.

I'd love to run equipment to help them build it. Would be a sweet job to get better on motorgrader.
