I heard from someone that sears is going to have another gearwrench sale, this time 50% off like the one we missed. You can take your receipt in and get the discount refunded.

Heh craftsman is still trash just with warranty. 
You can find Mac and SnapOn used (sort of) reasonably on ebay. I'm also starting to dig on the Proto Pro which is cheap like craftsman and has a lifetime warranty.

Thanks, but no thanks. I've never once had a problem with a craftsman handtool short of abuse. Which, I abuse the **** out of my tools, and they replace them EVERY TIME. On a regular basis I use standard thin wall Craftsman sockets with my IR Titanium 2135 Impact gun to hammer the **** out of stubborn bolts. Ever seen what a 700 foot pound impact gun does to hand tool sockets? They replace them anyway. Broken screwdrivers from prying, replace without question. I used a 7' cheaterbar on a 1/2 in drive Breaker bar... Broke the head clean off the bar, replaced with question.
I'm good with my "cheap with warranty" tools, because they're just that, Inexpensive.

What the **** ever.......
I know veteran mechanics that could give a **** less what brand the tool was as long as it did the job. Most of the guys I worked with that had the $10k Mac tool chests full of Mac tools were just "sold" by the Mac guy's schpeel.
I have a Mac impact gun and one of their air ratchets, but all my hand tools are Craftsman. Most of the time I'm happy just having the right tool needed for the job, rather than worrying about what brand it is.

I'm no snob, I have a pretty comprehensive Craftsman set at home, and I'm working on building a 2nd set of more quality tools. So I'm speaking from personal experience, working with different brands. Craftsman sockets and wrenches are nowhere in the same league as some of the other brands. Grab a SnapOn Flank Drive Plus or a MAC KnuckleSaver, then grab your Craftsman wrench again, and tell me there isn't a difference. The only exception is the Craftsman Professional line, which are mostly very good--but still pretty expensive. I've never used a screwdriver that compares to a SnapOn screwdriver.
Craftsman boxes are also total ****. And yes, I have a moderately expensive Craftsman roll around with top chest. I also have the second to cheapest SnapOn roll around and the difference in quality is staggering. The Craftsman stuff isn't level, the edges aren't square, the drawers don't fit, and it's flimsy. The Snappy is true, level, square, it has reinforced double walls that don't bend, the drawers don't sag, and always roll smoothly no matter how much weight you put in them. Again, there is some exception with the Craftsman Pro boxes, which aren't total junk but aren't good either compared to the high end.
Again, one of the cheap lines that I really do like is the Husky Pro at Home Depot and other places. I'm pretty sure they share a lot of the same tooling as MAC, and they carry the lifetime warranty.
Perhaps you enjoy dealing with exchanges at Sears. I don't. Can't stand their lazy, complacent, accusatory, and rude attitudes. Last time I went I had to wait 30 minutes for the one guy with a key to go unlock the ratchet cabinet. For a $11 ******* ratchet! The same ratchet that they previously denied a warranty exchange.
The Snappy man comes to me. I don't have to deal with exchanging tools on my day off. And he hooks me up with a smile on his face and NEVER asks a question. It's always, "Sure I should have it on the truck." And he comes back in a minute with it.

i really like most of my craftsman tools. some of the ratchets suck, but some are outstanding. but they still hold up pretty damn good. i also have some of my dads OLD higher brand tools and dont notice a big enough difference to make up for price. i have a mac air impact and its ok, i have a blue point (snap-on) air ratchet and its pretty nice. i work at a dealership and most people have snap-on or mac everything. but there are a few guys that have all craftsman and they dont have any complaints at all.

I dunno I worked for Mazda dealers for 10 years, There is a definate difference between snap-on and craftsman tools when you have to use them every day. Sockets i'll always buy craftsman because quite simply, I can beat the **** out of them or put them on a 1/2" impact and they get replaced no problem.
Flank drive plus wrench vs a craftsman wrench? no contest. Same with screwdrivers, ratchets or pretty much any hand tool. Ill put a craftsman wrench on something and grab a 4 pound maul hammer and beat the ****** til it breaks or the nut comes loose. Sears doesn't give a **** I can bring them a bucket full of broke fucked up **** that's half melted and run over. The snap-on guy though, give him a wrench that you might have dropped on the floor and he pitches a fit.
If it's 1/4" stuff though it's all craftsman because it never breaks and is a tenth the price.
Hell my craftsman polished 1/4" ratchet is probably my most favorite tool. It faithfully breaks pretty much once a year, ironically it always seems to break when they release an upgraded version too. wierd.
For tooling around at home there's nothing wrong with sears, That's all I have at home. If you use it everyday you need the snap on and mac man too, over priced or not.
People and their ******* tool boxes. I'll never get it, I've worked at dealers where these guys spend 15 or 20 grand on a tool box. For ****'s sake It's just a ******* BOX! It rolls around and the drawers open and close what else do you need??? For that much money the thing better be impervious to nuclear disaster AND blow me every morning I show up for work. I've always had a craftsman pro box and these dumb ***** make jokes right up until I point out they're making payments on their new truck for the next 6 years while my h3 was bought and paid for in cash. Ha. ha. Dipshits, go play in the freeway.
Fwiw sears people work on commision, they don't get paid to go socket hunting for you. Don't expect them to be all bright and cheery if your not buying something. Dunno about you, but I don't really enjoy working for free either and pretty much go out of my way not to do it on a daily basis.

I don't have easy access to the snap-on or mac truck guys often enough in case I do break something. I will say that the blackhawk wrenches I got are excellent and the snap--on tools I have used have felt superior in comparison. I don't wrench enough to afford them. I can afford $97 for a huge set of sockets with ratchets that I will have for life that will be warrantied for life. Its really easy for me to drive down the road to sears, i turned a tool in last night. The lady dropped it in a box and handed me the new one after walking to go get it for me. The tool was actually something I had found out behind my apartment, no idea who's is was but i got myself a nice 24mm 1/2 drive easy read 6 pt for free out of the deal.
I know I can get some used/discounted snapon/mac tools on ebay and other places but even at a discount the same kit i just bought would have been 250-400 all said and done for the same exact thing.
I was removing the ball joint from the lower A-arm. The vertical bolt holding it into the a-arm was a bitch. I bought a 18" 1/2 drive breaker bar and another deep 17mm 6 pt socket the day before I got this craftsmen kit. I bought them at autozone with a giftcard i had laying around. That vertical bolt broke two chingchong sockets, one was trades pro, the other was no name.

Use your tools to make a living? Snap-on, MAC, etc. are where its at.
Common gearhead who wrenches in the garage? Craftsman and the like are plenty good.
I bought a 100 pc screwdriver set from Home Depot today for $20
Are they even good as craftsman? no. will they do the job? yeah. tired of my more expensive ones disappearing... wont have to worry so much about that now.
EDIT oh yeah, I'd never buy less than a craftsman socket though. Busting a socket can really hurt when you punch something sharp as hard as you can,

I get it though. Now that I'm only wrenching on my car or one of our company trucks when they need it, my Craftsman set is plenty fine. But working in a garage 6 days a week, tool after tool after tool, they do get worked pretty hard. I opened an account with the Mac guy right when I started, but closed that **** as soon as I quit! lol
Plus the 3 surrounding shops are filled with Mac and Snap on stuff....so I get to use theirs for free!

Being a person who made a living turning a wrench myself for a while, I never once had a problem with anything Craftsman used. Two solid years, 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. My roll away and the entire contents of it were nearly identical to the 18 year Veterans ****, only he had over $100,000 invested in his **** while I had maybe 2k?
And seriously, I agree with you on these ******* retards and their god damn boxes.. Any ******* moron that spends over maybe $2000 at the ******* MAXIMUM on a ******* tool chest is just that.. A ******* TOOL BOX!!! Some of those ******* tards in that shop spent 20, 30, 40,000 on a god damn box... Custom painted with a '57 chevy, some gay nascar crap, a 49 ford... Jesus christ, and if you LOOKED at their boxes they'd get all ******* pissed off and start chasing you around with a broom stick! OOOOO!!! God forbid someone sneezes on your box, cause you spent more on it than your ******* trailer you live in.
