Car audio freaks?
I recently (well, a year ago) picked up a pair of Kicker SoloBaric L7 10" woofers (4 ohm) from a friend NIB.. Only problem is my current amp isn't nearly powerful enough to drive these things. Not by a long shot.
So I've been looking around for a good amp without breaking the bank. Its looking like I want a monoblock that'll do 2 ohms and push 750 watts RMS, maybe a little more. Each speaker is rated at 1200 watts max and 600 watts RMS. Basically I'm not spending $1000 on an amp. Not a chance in hell. I stumbled across a Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X1R 1200 watt amp that can be had for around $200.00 but I don't know anyone who used one of these. My current amp is < 0.1%THD @ max output. Thats hooked up to a 1994 Model year Kicker SoloBaric 12" round woofer in some psycho crazy ass bandpass box.. It sounds REALLY good and thumps pretty hard.. Another thing I just noticed about those specs (came from Crutchfield.com) it lists Bridged as N/A yet the manual for the amp says its 1 ohm stable and says nothinga bout not able to brdige it.... claims "1ohm x 1 >1000watts" Anyone have any experience with those Kenwood amps, or suggest something similar? |
