Car Part Porn: (SFW)

I know you guys are mostly into boost. I'm more of a ultra crisp modded NA enthusiast. Here's some cool bits for E30 M3s: slide throttles with a CF intake. Note the tapered runners changing from round to port shape over a calculated length fed by an optimized plenum itself fed by a 5 inch entry which in turn gets fed by a calculated intake whose entry lives next to the radiator in a high pressure zone. Sliders, if you are not familiar with them, offer no restriction since WOT means just a bore with nothing in it. No throttle shaft or fluttering blades. The last shot shows the slide throttle at WOT. Cool eh?

That looks affordable.

Last I checked, new swiss made sliders ran about 3K new. They are fairly complex in that the plates move on teflon and roller bearings due to the forces being high. |
Cool, but totally irrelevant to Miatas and thus doesn't belong in Race Prep.

Second fuel injector from the left isn't inline with the others. LAME.
What ain't lame is the variable valve lift gizmo the newer BMWs use. No throttle period. |

If this were porn, it would have been shot on an 8mm camera and feature a slightly overweight teenage girl with bad acne and granny-panties answering the door as Lance the Plumber shows up in his pinstriped '89 IROC-Z, and you can hear a baby crying in the background the whole time.

Actually, this is German amateur porn, so I should have made that Logan the Plumber in his '88 Porsche 924.

BTW they used to get 365-370 HP out of those 4 poppers, normally aspirated. Today some enthusiasts have gone past those levels. I've heard of low 400s, NA. Part of what they use are sexy parts such as these. My E30 M3 was nicely tuned for area under the curve TQ and could move a fairly heavy car to very low 14s in the 1/4 mile when I tried that out once. 0-60s in the 5.3 (stock was around 7). Not bad for an old normally aspirated lump moving a car 600-700 pounds heavier than a Miata.

I just did a Wiki search for "List of male performers in gay porn films", searched for "german" and picked the first one. Logan McCree - 2004 Mr. Leather, Germany, 2009 GayVN Awards winner of Best Sex Scene in The Drifter with Vinnie D'Angelo, 2009 Grabby Awards winner of: Best Duo Sex Scene for The Drifter with Vinnie D'Angelo, Best Three-Way Sex Scene in To The Last Man with Ricky Sinz and Scott Tanner, Best Actor in The Drifter. |
I don't understand what this obsession with "ultra crisp throttle" stuff is.....
My observations have revealed typically this "ultra crisp throttle" usually costs the same or more as a turbo system would and yields far lower power output. Maybe its just another mystery of life. That said, the pictures do show a very neat plenum and throttle thingy.. |
Or run 10.5:1 compression in ADDITION to 15psi on E85 like a boss and get all the throttle response and power of a good N/A car with all the Baller-ness of 250rwhp...

Almost always the best feeling, best handling option does not involve the largest tire. Larger tires can be faster but they don't handle as well. Handling is not just course time. So on the subjective control side of things, a sweet spot seems to be NA or good SC combined with less than maximum rubber. An example that is easy to feel would be the Super 7 clones. Those with steamroller tires and big boost don't feel quite as nice to drive on twisty roads as the more moderate versions. |

Kart porn anyone? This is a front brake system I saw earlier today. The two caliper arms pivot around their midpoint. The silver piston, at the bottom of the screen, expands, which rocks the caliper arms and pushes the pads against the floating disc. Pretty cool. AND sexily machined, which is obviously the most important consideration when choosing any racing brake system. |
