Are they really? I've heard nothing but good things about them, but never seen one on the road. 2 of my friends have regular mazda 3's and they are like that fat kid in school, maybe a little funny....but still slow and fat.

I've seen last years mazdaspeed 6 and was not impressed at all. Mommy car. :)

yeah, but I'm tired of buying used daily drivers that never run.

18psi 04-30-2008 11:42 PM

ive heard GREAT things about those cars and everyone seems to love em......1 major thing that will keep me from EVER owning one as a project/toy: FRONT WHEEL DRIVE = FAIL!

samnavy 05-01-2008 12:12 AM

You're going to learn to hate that motor.

MazDilla 05-01-2008 12:40 AM

You just like it cause it reminds you of that VAG trash you used to bomb around in.

...and just as S-L-O-W too!

ScottFW 05-01-2008 12:54 AM

I don't like that boost is limited in 1st gear in the name of "reducing wheel spin." :jerkit: But 0-60 in 5.4 isn't too shabby for a family errand mobile in that price range.

miatamania 05-01-2008 01:08 AM

Dude, I like those things...

coastertrav 05-01-2008 01:28 AM

I'd poke...

Oscar 05-01-2008 05:40 AM

I'd hit it. Drove it last year and I quite liked it, even thought it's FWD :giggle:

I don't know if I like the RX8 wheels.. but I like the MS3 as a whole. There's one that parks next to my miata all the time. I'll snap a pic. As for the speed of the car, who cares, you have a miata for that.

PAT! 05-01-2008 09:05 AM

If its a turbo I'll give you a hook up on one of our valves. From the feedback I've been getting it makes an enormous improvement in drive-ability and boost response.

Doppelgänger 05-01-2008 09:08 AM

i smoked one.

Not bad cars though.

Ben 05-01-2008 09:09 AM

I like the MS3. Easy upgrade path to 300+whp. I've got a Mazdaspeed intake for it you might want. I'll hook you up.

i'm with ya, dude. i came to the same conclusion and traded my POS daily in for a vanilla '08 mazda3. i test drove and thought about spending some extra dough for a ms3, but realized there's not really a reason to, if all i need out of it is comfort, mileage, and reliability.

I hear that.. I had a fun time driving my ex's Maz3. The 2.3 really gets up compared to the civics of the world, and it gets decent gas mileage.

MX5-4me 05-01-2008 02:03 PM

As much as i like Mazdas i'd have to go with a WRX over the MS3. My brother has a wagon and it's the tits for a daily.

Zabac 05-01-2008 02:40 PM

when it comes to gas mileage
FWD>AWD...but other than that, not so much!

WRX and MS3 have almost the exact same MPG ratings with the better going to the WRX around town and the MS3 on the highway..

Zabac 05-01-2008 02:59 PM

What about actual gas mileage? I don't look at ratings too much, they are more of a referrence point to me.

That's going to vary depending on the driver it's not a very good way to judge. The EPA MPG reports are done by the manufactor per EPA specs meaning a fairly even playing field of course they are not exact.

i've always liked those, and this particular one looks sick

rollin904 05-01-2008 04:00 PM

if i bought a wrx i'd be too tempted to mod it out...buy a old corolla or camry. toyotas run forever.

I don't know about the MS3, but my 04 WRX returned 27-28 consistently on the hwy/interstate, where it spent most of it's life. It was a good car for a salesman/DD. Fast enough, AWD FTW.

cueball1 05-01-2008 05:29 PM

There was an MS3 last week at a BMW lapping day. Had the noisiest tires on the track. They were howling every time he just thought about turning the wheel. It was a FWD car in a RWD world being a Bimmer meet. It was whoopin up on most of the Beemer brigade though. Never got to talk to him to see what mods had been done if any.

as far as feel/power curve/traction and overall ease and smoothness with which it behaves during daily driving i would go hands down wrx....gas mileage? not so much

true that, i agree but you would be VERY surprised at how much these fwd turbo cars eat too..my buddy has a srt4 and he BARELY gets better gas mileage than me

im sad to report taht you are correct :( while i dont drive like a jackass or anything, i still have yet to consistantly get posted gas mileage figures. of course not now that im modded but even when i was stock

fuck that, I got 20mpg highway in the outback.

Torkel 05-02-2008 06:21 AM

You lot are just like my buddies here. The trick is to have a r-e-a-s-o-n-a-b-l-e car for a daily driver. Once you have that, you do one very critical thing: You "Leave it alone!" I know this is hard for many of us here, but believe me, it is for the best. I keep a very strict line between my Miata (just for fun) and my BMW (keep bone stock). I strongly recommend this setup.

I hate fucking with cars all the god damn time. I don't have the time or money to fuck with the miata, def. no another car...and why even fuck with FWD gaydom? I'm still thinking about a base model hatch, but I would enjoy the ms3 a lot more even though its another $10k. I might still consider a used one, but I won't find a white car.

My point exactly, since I am in the same position. I was more giving a jab to the guys that wants to help you speed that car up.
