Is it a good deal on paper? I'd do it if I stood to make money beyond what I'd sell my car for.

On paper, then yes. Id make money beyond what I would probably sell my car for.

I am just attached sentimentally. The time, blood, sweat and tears I put into the car not to mention all the research I did is whats holding me from just going YES.

+1.... It all depends on what condition the vette is in. if its taken care of, with decently low miles, and the deal was sweet (not alot of money on top on your part) id hella do it...just my .02

got any details/pics on this vette?

If the Vette isn't a piece of **** I'd jump on it providing you aren't getting fucked.

Yeah, could go either way..don't you have like ultra low miles on your car?
Anyways, '03 Vette in good condition and no salvage history is worth two Miatae.

edit-looks nice, go drive it.

Can you afford the Vette?

If the answer is yes, then YES.

Otherwise, no.

Since the last email with limited details he told me my car is analogous to a 99 with a turbo he was looking at and the dealer wanted 9 grand.

I am in no way giving him 22,5 for his car. I figure 20 maybe 21 at the most.

So figure another 11 or 12.

Money isnt the issue. Its the sentimental value.

My girlfriend also wants me to get a Porsche, not a Corvette and I am also leaning toward a Porsche. Her words "If you are going to indulge. Indulge right".

Unless you've got $$$ or are willing to drive and old shitty one a Porsche is going to be nothing but a status symbol. Take the vette and drive the living snot out of it and have a blast. It'll be cheaper to mod a vette than it would be a Porsche.

Car looks nice, get it. Enjoy the magic of torque!

The only Porsche you are going to get is either the old stuff, (944, 928, 914/6, etc) or a boxter or a high mileage 99/00 911 C2.

Porsche's are EXPENSIVE to maintain, you think the insurance/tires/brakes/maint on a vette is going to be bad? Try double or tripling it with a 911.

These kinds of cars are NOT like our miata's that require no maint. Anything "upbrand" using the term loosely since a Chevrolet is in the equation, requires constant attention/money.

I was thinking of an 04 boxter, for about 25k. Which is doable, I have researched the prices.

As for maintenance, it cant be that bad. Porsche's have like the best track record for reliability from what I have seen.

Boxter is more of a chick car than a Miata. If you buy one you'll get a free sex change.

It isn't IF it breaks. When it breaks, or needs clutch/pads/tires ... then prepare to bend over. Insurance is going to be a little crazy too.

Or maybe im just going a bit over the top with this. Im thinking out loud, right now.

I love my car, I have a smile on my face every time I drive it. I also love this community, not that I cant post here if I get the vette but still. I can also take that money that would go to the vette and put it in my miata, learn something new, occupy my time and have an even better car.

I'm not concerned about the car sex symbol, and I have a feeling neither is anyone else on this forum.

But you are right, I am sure it would be more expensive and I am used to doing my own work right now.

Ah well, I think its a bit over the top. Dont be surprised that I dont go through with it guys.

Also the gas mileage is making me frown, I get 25mpg average on the miata even though i dont drive much i wouldnt want to have to fill up twice as often with the vette.

Just put more money in the miata, get a real suspension and real tires and go enjoy yourself on a track.
