When I hit the reply button I didn't see anyone with first hand claims, or maybe I missed a few.

Markp's pushing 300 at the wheels with a chinacharger? God damn! How many miles so far??

I put like 5,000 miles on it. No appreciable thrust issues, I did damage the turbine with metal from the chinese manifold that went into the turbine blades under boost but considering the carnage the turbo held up rather well. It was still boosting fine. I didn't cry about it because although it had some bent fins it was still spinning true. I did decide to replace it, well, because it was $139 plus shipping... so why not. I have the old turbo as a backup, but it wasn't blowing oil or anything. I would have never seen the damage if I didn't remove the turbine housing when I did a full inspection on it.

PS - There is one chinacharger that is a particularly high quality one, and it's been used by several people. I will post a link here to a similar one, it's identifiable by the blue tag and it's a 50 trim T3/T4 with a .63 A/R exhaust.

It has a nice inlet with no major step. I know at least 5 of these are installed and currently still on the street without problems.

This one is cheaper but I have not seen one in person and I didn't like the step in the inlet to the turbine, there is a new version of this turbo with an anti-surge housing... but I have no data on those either.

Dude that rocks! Thats the EXACT auction I've been watching off and on too.. Think I'm gonna commit. Have a quality manifold so that shouldn't be a problem! :D

It's pretty sick. Below is my dyno chart, the car was only street tuned and running 93 octane unleaded right out of the pump from Diamond Shamrock.

It spools a little late, but I ran that 12.76 short shifting at 7200 RPM and a relatively gentle launch at the strip and backed it up later with another 12.76 shifting at 8500, which didn't buy me anything.

So that's what to expect, relatively untuned at 17 PSI.

Right now it's hard to tell which Chinachargers are which.

True. They just need some direction that's all. Here's your chance to provide that and maybe turn it into a profitable venture for you. People would gladly buy a $400 garrett clone that works like a garrett and lasts like a garrett, specially one that has been tested by someone like yourselves.

not a chinese turbo. just a turbo that some shop (MJM turbos) couldn't put together properly cause they suck ass.

bryantaylor 12-19-2007 09:05 PM

i hav ran a SSAC t3/t4, and 40mm wastegate with no problems at all also. i know several people with "chinachargers" and they all work fine too. i know more with with problems with real garretts than with the cheap china turbos. i actually had a friend in a DSM brand new garret t4 come apart on him going down the interstate next to me.

WHAA!!! Engine mods? Exhaust? Interfooler? SPECS DAMMIT!!

Markp 12-20-2007 01:52 AM

It's a built motor, cheap rods, JE Pistons, valve train and a Billet oil pump. That was with a 2.5" exhaust and a 2.25" downpipe with a 38mm tial wastegate. Currently moving to a 3" system. Intercooled, of course.

Lots of mods.

Blaast performance already takes chingchong chargers, rebuild them, checks tollerances, and rebalances them. You end up with a good solid turbo that you know is in check.
You can do that yourself though. Buy the turbo, make sure the compressor nut is tight and loctite it because i've heard of them coming off. Remember that they're reverse thread. If you don't feel safe running it with the internals they provide. Buy a rebuild kit, DIY install, then have it professionally balanced to have the piece of mind. My local shop charges $30-35 to balance a turbo assembly.

The_Pipefather 12-20-2007 09:58 AM

I agree. Another $100 spent on a DIY rebuild & rebalancing is not a bad idea specially for the peace of mind.

Nice man. I'd be highly satisfied with those results. :eek5:

We'd first need to buy the equipment to check the balance and other tolerances for ourselves if we were to do that. Not quite worth the investment at this point. :)

There is no T2 based chinacharger like that. I have only seen them in the T3 variety. So sorry I can't help you with the baby turbos.

Loki047 12-20-2007 02:37 PM

XxGoKoUxX 12-20-2007 02:43 PM

if u want a T2... why not just get the one off the sr20? or the DSMs?

Loki047 12-20-2007 02:52 PM

cause a new chinacharger would have been fun, im not dealing with an old used peice of crap. This was just going to hold me over still i saved up.
