Christmas present for dad's miata

He has an 02 automatic. I think getting him a hard top would be nice, but I don't know how much room they have in the garage (I'm living overseas, and haven't seen it in a year), and unless i find a killer deal, i would spend too much and he would get pissed. So I was thinking of something in the $100 range or so, something with a price I can fib on and be believed. He likes the car, but doesn't like it when I spend money on him, so I figured i would spend the money on the car instead. Any thoughts. He bought the car to cruise, and I don't know if cruise means turning, or just driving down the road, so I don't know the best thing to get for him. Maybe a head unit?

Get him a Voodoo knob. They feel good, and are fairly cheap. Not a big deal to change it back if he doesn't like it.

Would there be something small I could pick up here in Japan that is much better than the US counterpart? Not talking about Roadster badges, but other things.

Jacob, he bought the car with an auto because that is what he wanted. If I bought anything like that for the car, it would be a VW diesel with a 5 speed for it, or an LS1 with a 6 speed

shift knob are always great as gifts. Plus they're super easy to install.

I've never seen an automatic miata in person before (close enough to really check it out at least) but I'd have to assume that putting a voodoo (or any other shift knob) on an automatic's shifter would be pretty difficult if not impossible.

Underated 10-19-2010 01:22 AM

There are aftermarket automatic shift knobs out there. I know momo makes a decent one in his price range. I don't know specifically for miatas, but there are ways to put a manual knob onto an automatic shifter; you would lose the button-locking capability though (not worth it)

I checked on the truck tune, and we are looking at $550. So to the miata it is. i was thinking about the strut(shock) bar, but not alot of good things said about it. Also looking at a sound system upgrade. We will see what mom says dad has commented on.

Why would you upgrade a shift knob that you never touch while driving?

RyanRaduechel 12-16-2010 12:20 AM

how about a front lip or something? They arent too pricey, and it would give the car something new to look at

Dad said that he isn't happy with his low beam projector's performance. Is there a company that makes pre-made headlight harnesses, or do I need to make one for him?

it's been almost a year, and dad still has the miata. ANyone have comments on the lowbeams

I've had excellent results with the phillips visionplus +50% brightness bulbs.

You can get him the hi, low, and driving lights for under $100 while they're on special.

suvlights.com is very good, not rinky dink.

See if you would've went with my front lip idea, you'd be set. Until he rips it off on a curb or something.

That's surprising, I've found my 01's headlights to be outstanding. Maybe he needs the lenses restored and better bulbs?
