Default ? For the Subie Guys

I just bought an 08 WRX, and was wondering about Subie forums. I noticed there are several, I'm sure each has it's own personality, just like miata forums. Which is the clubroadster, mt.net, and miata.net etc?

I registered at NASIOC and at a glance it seems pretty cool.

with my new outback xt I use legacygt.com a lot lately. I have been a part of nasioc since 04 but it's pretty...huge. If you post a thread in the morning, it will be 3 pages back by lunch.

Their forums are not like ours, you don't have a "ricer forum" "cool forum" and "pansy forum".....Each has a little bit of each but overall are all great.

What questions do you have? I've owned quite a few subaru's, taken apart quite a few subaru engines/transmissions and did more turbo swaps on them than I can remember. I also happen to a bit of Opensource Tuning

Any questions I'll be happy to answer. I love subaru's. Even more than miata's (just don't tell anyone cause they'll kill me)

Ha Ha, I was thinking of getting in on the RCE/GTWORX GTWORX by BILSTEIN OEM fitment SPORT SHOCKS /SUSPENSION for 08+ WRX !! - NASIOC deal. No real questions yet, the car is my DD and sometime wifey car, so the mods will be mild. I just wanted to get a feel for the forums. Thanks for the info.

869 for replacement bilstein shocks? When yours are still literally almost brand new? I wouldn't do it but oh well..

As for sites, check out:
nasioc
i-club
clubwrx
iwsti
dirtyimpreza

There are many many more but those are the main ones I think

Yeah, it must look stupid at a glance. There is about 5 multi page threads on this. The 08 WRX's handling isn't up to par for me, it's way worse than my old 02 bugeye. But I don't want to blow big money on a KW setup (even though I'd like to, the miata is the money pit).

These are being specifically valved by bilstein to go with RCE's 350 springs. The setup is being developed to give "M3 type handling". These are the cheapest, competently valved shocks I have found, that will fit this car. The dyno's show the stock 08/09 shocks completely unable to handle anything more than stock spring rates. If you have anything better I'd like to see them. I don't mean that in a smart *** way, i'd really like to see some other options.

Thanks for the other forums, I will check them out.

I'll be honest: I don't know what kind of valving the 08 shocks have, BUT I did hear GREAT things about the RCE/bilstein combo.

I had tein flex on my 07, and tein s-tech springs on my 05 and 06.
The flexes were very good imo, and the s-techs were nothing special but for that drop and just regular around town driving they were decent.

Used flexes are around 1000-1200 though. Why not just go that route?
Don't get me wrong, like I said I'm sure the RCE/billstein combo is great but for over 1k I'd expect to be on fully adjustible coilovers

Horray for inexpensive powerful tuning solutions for these cars! I installed ecuflash and romraider on my new netbook last night and downloaded the OEM Rom image. Time to learn what's what with these two and hopefully get rid of this choppiness of the OEM tune :(

rs25.com is a bunch of ricers. nasioc is HUGE.

Ive helped out on a few subaru swaps since my roommate does it for $$. He is becoming a big competator for ECS (east coast swappers) . I am also friends with the original owner of ECS. I spent all of last year in their old apartment tearing into subarus. RHD swaps, FWD --> awd ... ect ect.

My current GF drives a modded '02 WRX (bugeye). Its almost faster than my miata :(

I will look into them. I need to check out their spring rates, etc. This car will not be tracked, thats what the miata is for. Will not be slammed, or corner weighted.

I was looking for a set it and forget it solution. I've been "HIGHLY ENCOURAGED" to resist the urge to turn this into another project by my wife. Since she will be driving this quite a bit, even cross state trips with the kids, while I'm at work. I wanted something better than stock, but still compliant.

When I drive to work, I'm usually ahead of the snow plows, so I'm traversing mountain passes with frequent rock slides, and decent snow. So I wasn't planning on lowering it much, I need the clearance. But all input and advice is accepted.

Thanks

I don't know his name on here but Silver Miata Racer on the MSM board has a WRX-STI. He will definitely know the good gearhead and racer forums...

rs25.com is where it's at for Subies. Nasioc is too big and lacks any community feeling. Just a massive amount of e-thugging in an otherwise bland off-topic section. It's definitely a good resource for used parts and researching information but there is a huge amount of crap to muddle through. rs25.com is more Miata like in that they're older cars with more oddball modifications like ours. There's alot more variety going on instead of typical new car bling mods. I'm also a big fan of being able to recognise poster's after a while, and that's definitely more doable over there.

Props to ECS though, they have an awesome reputation. I ******* miss my Suby though...

LMFAO thats a good one. My roommate has personally fixed multiple cars they have hacked up.

The original owner, james was good. Once he sold it and the ****** started a legal battle with him it went down hill from there. They suck and are very unprofessional.

I am a member of RS25. Its a decent site, but just way too many 17 yr olds (like my little bro) posting up about their clear corners and fog light mods.

East Coast Swappers do not have a good reputation. Maybe a long time ago....but if you check recent threads on NASIOC (and possibly the other forums), you'll hear quite a few horror stories. Anyhoo, that's not relevant to his 08. Nor is rs25.com per se. I'd say NASIOC would be his best bet for finding the info he seeks.

Stay out of Off Topic (OT) or rather, don't post in there. They're a bit brutal to n00bs. That forum really moves fast! We recently found out one of the OTters father's is the guitarist for Aerosmith when he posted some kick-*** pics of F1 in Abu Dhabi.

RCE is a local vendor. I'm not a huge fan of them...but they might've worked out some of their kinks w/ some of their earlier kits.

Another thing is ordering something like KWs is the downtime if you need them rebuilt or revalved. Save your old hardware!

Also, what are you planning on doing w/ your Subaru? Autocross, tracking, or general spirited driving? One of my friends went with the AST setup, but wasn't totally happy with what they sent him (wrong parts), downtime, etc. IIRC, they use Vorschlag or vice versa.

Just my .02 worth. I'm in the DC region (Mid-A) and am familiar with the local vendors. I've got a great relationship w/ Andrewtech and TurboXS. A lot of folks like IAG for customer support. Mach V won't budge on pricing, but I'm kind of friends w/ Dan (owner).

Thanks for all the info guys. As stated above this is just going to be a spirited commuter. The Miata and 4runner are for tinkering.
