[NB] Bigger MAF - Question for 5.0 Miata owners - MX-5 Miata Forum

Cliffs:

Hyper:

How do you run a bigger Ford MAF on a 5.0 or LS1 with stock Miata ECU?

msc302:

You can't. You have to run the Ford computer if you are running a 5.0. Then on to detailed answer by knowledgeable person

Hyper:

OK, I'm going to disregard everything that you just said. Now, how about a 929 or MPV MAF?

I'm sure he has some hairbrained scheme being hatched that somehow if he runs a bigger MAF he will be able to get more air in than our anemic heads will draw even now with an adequately sized MAF. Does he not realize a huge MAF will result in such slow airflow on a 1.8 that it will render it essentially ineffective?

Do you suppose the Ford MAF swap has been fully disclosed?

Typing replies on the PS3 is difficult. He'll try again tomorrow.

Good Lord.

Reinventing the wheel is often pretty stupid. Trying to make a oval do the same thing is even dumber.

The stock 3.5" Z06 MAF (HZ based signal) will flow more than any Miata with any driveline needs right now, and the Lightning MAF for the Ford guys (0-5V signal) is good to like 600HP IIRC. Both are relatively cheap and available.

I'm just trying to nicely hint that he will in no way EVER need that much airflow capacity. For whatever reason he just has it stuck in his head that if he uses the biggest piping possible, he will make INFINITY HORSEPOWER!!!!!!1111!!1. It pains me to read his threads though :(

Personally when I am feeling down I will look at people like that and feel a lot better. If these idiots have managed to survive I will do just fine.

It makes me want to start a thread asking what kind of gains I could expect if I installed the largest cone air filter possible.
