Costco 4 ft led shop lights
 

Ive been looking at upgrading the garage lighting at my place. Currently have 2 round fluorescent fixtures and I can't see squat. I was looking at the Costco led 4 ft fixtures. They claim they put out 3700 lumens each. Maybe I can install 4 of those? They are only $40 each. What are other affordable options? What are you guys using? By the way it's a 400 sqft garage

I currently use 4 4' fluorescent fixtures...I too am looking to upgrade.

3700 lumens for $40? I find that hard to believe. I'm not finding any LED fixtures on the Costco website.


We've installed these at work here and they are just okay. Not much better than regular florescent.

I've been slowly upgrading the plant to LED technology.
What i've found is that the cheaper units are pretty much junk. For a garage they may be decent, but you're better off staying with what you have. If you want to spend some cash you can get something good.

Anything made with Cree LEDs are awesome. That's my goto brand.

I doubt you'll get up into the 300+ ACTUAL lumen range for anything less than $150, and that's really looking. Even with our Grainger discount LED's aren't marked down very much. I think we get $100 off a $600 fixture.

I put a bunch of these up to replace wallpacks. They're not bad from an energy savings standpoint (we were running 400w low pressure sodium bulbs). Even quoted they were $167 for 2100 lumens.

Spend money, do it right, or wait for the technology to get cheaper.

I usually opt for high quality but this is my first house and I will eventually sell it so no need to go overboard and spend too much. Here is a link to the lights. I saw them with my own eyes $40. If they break you can return them, Costco return policy is amazing.

I have 4, two in the front above my tool boxes, and the two pictured, all plugged into a power strip, plugged into a socket on that single bulb, so they all turn on with one switch. No fires yet.

P.S. pictures make them look dim, it's super bright, and the two 100w bulbs on the garage opener isn't even on.

Curly, thats not bad. I think your setup is equivalent to the costco leds.
Here is another option but I think I am going to buy 4 Costco leds.

Just put in a fluorescent kitchen light for my mom. Fixture wasn't all that cheap, but I wanted something decent. So, I bought this 3 light jobber. Put "daylight" bulbs in it. The sales guy warned me that they were really bright. I got them anyway.

Mom's kitchen is like high noon in the desert whenever that fixture is on. Super bright. Bulbs were no more expensive than the "regular" fluorescent, but holy cow, so much more light output.

Also, I have put compact LED lights throughout my house. Like the earlier CFLs, they die much more quickly than the specified claims. At $7-$10 a pop, they aren't cheap. For that kind of money, I'll "waste" energy with plain old incandescent bulbs.

FWIW LEDs will always look brighter even if they're cheap. Color temperature is also a big factor too. At $40 a pop, it's worth a try. I've never seen that kind of light output from such a cheap LED fixture.

We will be replacing 40 8' florescent fixtures (80 bulbs) with 7 25000 lumen high bay LED lights. I'll try and get pictures before and after.

I'll just say i was absolutely not impressed with cheap LED 4' fixtures and bulb replacements i got.

this is relevant to my interests. whoever gets those ones from costco please post up review. I'm really tempted to get some. hope they're as good as they appear to be

You want high quality LED lighting for industrial? Try Big Ass Fans. They make a fixture that is dazzling in it's brightness.

The trick is getting something to survive in an anodizing facility. These say they have a 7 year warranty. I'd like to see if they would honor that, haha.

I'm going to buy 4 from Costco this weekend after I get my birthday and Christmas Costco gift cards I asked hahaha
