I don't think it's so bad. You guys are looking at the second set of pictures where it's flat black, right? If flat black ain't your cup of tea then it ain't but some people like it. I am indifferent about it but I think it's a reasonable and inexpensive choice for a 15-year-old+ shit wagon with three different color body panels. Not every moron is going to pay $500+ (last time I painted a car myself this is how much just paint and materials were) on a $3000 car.

its not that bad, maybe he is just broke like i was...my car was four different colors, i couldnt afford paint so i just sprayed it one color until i had enough money...but then again i didnt pride myself on how JDM-tight it is either...

A Miata with a Monster swap is valued at high retail blue book, no higher. Period. Why do people have such a hard time with this? What people will pay has nothing to do with how much it's "worth", which has more to do with insurance companies and financing. You can add all the parts you want and it doesn't do anything for value. Why do you think people part their cars when nobody will buy their 1990 Greddy Miata for $7000?

You can't get a loan for a $20,000 NA Miata, so if you had that kind of coin why wouldn't you build the Monster on your own to make sure it's done right?

I think you have that backwards. what it's worth is what the market will bear. just because KBB or Edmunds dont understand how to quantify that doesn't mean it's not worth that much.

I bet you could find an insurance company who would cover the actual cost for you for a lot of money. Just takes a few receipts and appraisals.

it's like a house. most houses aren't worth a million bucks. They're worth what you'll pay for them though. even the appraisers dont give real numbers anymore. who cares? if it's what you expect to get they just tell you "yup, it appraises" and dont even mention a value.

the mass market just isn't set up to handle custom cars like that.

This is true. But historically people have had a really tough time getting a return on their investment when it comes to non-classic modified cars. I don't know why a Monster Miata would be any different. Scarcity, I guess. But the kits, donor parts and knowledge are abundant.

You're off base. I've been watching V8 miatas prices for a while now; I was thinking of buying or building one. They fetch what people will pay, and people are paying 20k+ for a nice one, and mid to high teens for ones that aren't complete. The Cruise Missle just went for low 20s. The owner was asking 24k I think. That car was 10 miles from my house and I never got a ride. The owner promised to take me out once his motor was rebuilt, but he sold it right after it came out of the shop.

It doesn't matter that you can't get a loan for it. There are people out there who can afford to pay cash, and do so.

No, I'm not going V8. I really, really, really want to. But it's not in the budget.

I have never paid anything close to blue book for any of my Miatas (four of them so far). Most have been 2-3X book and all were modified.

I have been looking for a Monster for quite a while. The cheapest you can build one yourself is about $12K. Most with $25K in them (built motors, etc) sell for around $15K.
