I was going to say, that's easily a 10K miata if all they say about it is true.

Here's one with 27 miles sold for 15K three years ago.

27k is a bit mad though...

I was intrigued by this listing, because I have a 325 wagon-AWD 5 speed, with 250,000 on the clock. Looks like this Volvo was an electrical nightmare for a lot of people. Tons of terrible reviews with a couple good ones mixed in.

I knew I would run into this hunk of shit again.
This is my fourth time posting a CL ad for this car here. It even had a build thread for a short time.

I'm selling my pride and joy. my 94 miata this thing is a neck breaker, it's awesome and fun. runs and drives great. odometer shows 104k has nrg quick release steering wheel and sparco racing seat. has short shifter, has 15" fr1 wheels with new nexen rubber. 195/45/15 has Been straight piped with new resonator shoots flames. new plugs new radiator. body is decent, no rust but has a crappy patch job on rear quarter panel. fenders have been rolled and cut to fit the wheels, it'll need to be recut because it still rubs a bit when turning. I was wanting to buy fender flares. this was gonna be my summer project/drift missile. has the sought after 1.8 straight 4 cylinder engine. 5 speed manual transmission without and grinds easy to drive just have to be careful with potholes. the interior is missing the drivers door panel and window roller thing. over all good little vehicle good on gas and great looking with a little money it'll be even more awesome. text me show contact info
$2000 no trades.. needs new top. current one has tape doesn't leak and it is running rich smells like gas

^I remember this car being posted on the Indiana Miata Facebook page a while back, and all the awful stancebros on that page gushing about how awesome that car was....

mgeoffriau Jun 25, 2016 01:21 PM

I love the phrase "drift missile", and the implication that these stupid cars are intended to hit things and explode.

Such as speed bumps and pot holes.

what really shocks me though, is that these cars actually get.......sold
I just can't comprehend this phenomenon

There's an ass for every seat, if the price is right.

Joe Perez Jun 27, 2016 07:56 PM

"What's your lowest price?" - people on Craigslist.

"What's the most you're willing to pay?" - Me.

Seriously, what is it about people on Craigslist responding to for sale ads like that? I'm selling a clean, rust-free 2004 Miata. I've posted a ton of pictures, and I've stated that I believe $4,900 is a reasonable price for it. If you feel it's worth less, then make me a lower offer. But don't insult me by acting like I'm going to reply "Oh, well, since you asked, I actually only want $2,400 for it. I just put $4,900 in the listing to scare people away."

18psi Jun 27, 2016 07:59 PM

Yup. It's basically some moronic un-written rule/standard on CL by now.

No matter what I'm selling, no matter the price, 9 times out of 10 the very first question is: "what's the lowest you'll take?"

Joe Perez Jun 27, 2016 08:15 PM

I've actually had to tell one guy to just stop texting me, because I don't want to deal with him. I finally said to another, the guy who said "All I have right now is $2,400", (and I am quoting myself directly): "Haha. Ok, well, text me back when you've got roughly double that amount, and we'll talk then."

This is my first foray into actually using Craigslist to try to sell something, and it's about as bad as I expected it would be. And that's without talking about the ones who are obvious spammers. (The "please respond with your preferred mailing address and I will expedite a bank check immediately" types.)

Monk Jun 27, 2016 09:23 PM

I try to make it very clear in the ad that lower offers will not be entertained, but dumb people are going to dumb.
Speaking of; I have a rusty parts car that was destined for the scrap yard, but I am now considering slapping some primer on, cutting the springs, and listing it as JDMyodriftmissileMLPlyfe for $4,000.
I will accept the first lowball offer of $2400.

And that's why (except cars) parts/electronics/etc, all are either given to family/friends, or just thrown away.

My little sister just received a 70" DLP for the low-cost of her husband coming to pick it up, because I didn't want to mess with the cesspool that is CL over $100.

rleete Jun 28, 2016 10:32 AM

I use CL all the time. There are the no-shows, the lowballers and the just-jerks-in general, but I've also met a lot of good people. I've gotten (and given) some great deals, too.

For example, I was selling some little tykes toys, really cheap. I basically just wanted them out of my garage, but put a few bucks on everything because the freebie no-shows are annoying. When the lady showed up wanting one toy, I gave her the lot for about 5 bucks. Her kids were absolutely thrilled, and she couldn't thank me enough. When I sold the kid's outgrown bike, I just gave it to the boy who showed up with his father. Sure, I lost out on $10, but it was worth it to see that little boy's beaming face.

Last time I went to purchase some machinist tools, I ended up talking to the retired old guy selling the stuff for at least an hour. He was so happy that his tools were going to someone who would actually use them that he just about gave away the store. I still keep in touch with the old man, and his advice on machining has been invaluable. He stops over every once in a while to chat and see what I've been making.

I use CL all the time, I can weed out 95% of the people who have issues with just email. Overall I am very happy with the service, especially with how much I pay for it, which is zero.

My girlfriend and I were on our way back from a weekend trip and met a guy to sell him a Jackson Racing header. We ended up going to three breweries with him and his wife, then to dinner afterwards! I've been meaning to call him to see if he's free to hangout again this summer haha.

cyotani Jun 28, 2016 11:26 AM

My favorite craigslist people are those that do this on a $4000 asking price car.

"Hey Bro, I'll give you $2400 for it"

Me: "Okay, when can you come pick it up"

Silence..... People just throw low ball offers out there so often with no intent of buying.

If someone calls me "bro" in the first text to me I typically ignore them because 4/5 times they flake and are a waste of time.

But I have met some very cool people off craigslist and get some repeat buyers that recognize me and I see them out on the track often.

Thinking of getting a larger house, so I'm selling my "toys".

1994 Mazda Rx-7

CHASSIS
86,xxx miles

2006 799 LS2/LS6 cylinder heads with Brian Tooley titanium valve springs and retainers, Texas Speed cam 235/40 duration, 635/609 lift, 111 LSP, TSP chromoly pushrods, Fast 92 with 92mm PFM throttle body, LS7 lifters, F-Body accessory drive pulleys with power steering, ported SLP oil pump, F-Body oil pan with Improved Racing oil pan baffle

Falken RT-615K tires (new) 255/40/17 front, 275/40/17
Muteki black lug nuts

The car is ridiculously reliable. I drove it 14 hours home from Portland when I bought it. It gets about 24mpg on the highway cruising at 70mph+. The car could use a tune because it definitely feels like there's a lot more power that can be had. I was talking to my mechanic and he agreed. The car won't idle on its own sometimes (again could use a better tune), but tapping the throttle will help it if it tries to die. Other than that the only issue I can think of is that the speedo stopped working. I haven't bothered looking into it just yet.

Clean and clear title in my name. Registration is current.
