Crysis 2 - pretty good game

I just started playing tonight. I'm about 2 hours into the campaign mode and I am enjoying myself.

NA6C-Guy 03-26-2011 02:50 AM

I think it could be better. Also, not their fault, but I find the confined, linear feel of the urban environment takes away from the game. I prefer the more open feel of Crysis and FarCry over this game. Still a fun game, and looks amazing, even though it's not DX11, which I find amazing. My new ASUS 5850 DirectCU Top video card is working like I had hoped. Got it especially for this game, and I'm running at Extreme setting at 1920x1200 and getting mid 40fps. I'm at about 5-6 hours in, and some parts get a bit tough. Especially considering some of the checkpoints are far apart. Die after a half hour of work and have to start way back at the last checkpoint. Then get fed up and quit.

Yeah, I was drinking a little bit and let my guard down for a second and got killed. Took a while to get back to where I was.

I'm playing on the 360 because I probably don't have the power to play on the PC. In fact, I am getting ready to play my first PC game since Quake. Drum roll.... It's PainKiller <G>. Not sure why, but I have the itch to play it (the first one) and I don't have an XBox1 setup for gaming right now (using mine for pushing video).

Wait till you get towards the end. Took me many tries and many different tactics to get through some parts. :vash: Story goes ok with Crysis 1 but still leaves a few questions, but meh. What can you do...

I'm so tired of upgrading my PC to play the latest video games. No more.

I'm glad this is on xbox though, I'll have to check it out. I'm getting better at FPS with a controller over mouse and keyboard anyways. Scrolling the mouse over fifty times to turn around is much harder than just holding a little stick to the side.

Yeah, but with a game like this it's more about graphics. The Crysis games have never been groundbreaking in game play, but has been in graphics. Playing them on a console to me is just taking a polished turd and doing away with the polished finish. I saw a video the other day comparing console vs PC, and the PC version is 10x better looking.

PS. PainKiller was shit.

Im getting a GTX590 so I can be set for the next 3-4 months of PC gaming.

I need to get this game tho, I think my gtx280 should handle this fine with my separate physx card.

OK, completed the game. The second half completely sucked (story wise) and the ending was a big letdown. There were also several confusing places where I walked around in a circle for 15-20 minutes trying to figure out where to go. I absolutely hate when games do that. Anyway, as far as the first half of the game went - it was pretty good.

I've still got a couple of weeks of nightshift left so I am going to try Homefront and see how that looks.

I always find the first half of Crytek games to be the better half. When it's more man vs man, and less man vs alien. I'm just a human killing kind of guy.

You must've liked when the marines showed up in the original Half-Life.

With you on that one. Laz0rguns and aliens ain't my bag of chips.

Have they improved the aiming? After playing Quake/QW and Half-Life/CS, I'm used to actually hitting where I aim. I played Crysis for 10 minutes before I deleted it, and the only reason was the AWFUL aiming.

I shoot better with an AK-47 IRL then that twat did in game.

(And to be fair, the recoil in those plastic fantastic gas carbine 5.56 caliber peashooters is almost not existing, so it's not even realistic when you don't hit shit)

Edit:
The best days of FPS gaming was in the old days, when we played QuakeWorld with bright red and white skins, and it was ALL skills and speed. Putting on some nasty drum'n bass and drinking some beer, while bunnyjumping the shit out of your opponents.
You got fucking autofragged if you stood still for more then 5 seconds, and there was no 12 year olds sitting in every corner waiting for you.
THOSE were the days!

I just spent about 15 minutes playing Homefront. I'm not sure what makes one game good and another one bad but I didn't like it at all and will probably never play it again. I'm three minutes into it and have some guy who rescues me screaming "Grab the grenades" over and over. I'm looking around all over the place and don't see shit to grab. I hate that...

God I hate games like that. I've had games where I was stuck at one place looking for a switch, button, weapon, ect. for hours, finally having to resort to gamefaqs to help me. Games that poorly laid out just don't excite me.

I'm waiting very anxiously for BF3 to come out. THAT shit looks amazing. Should look great on PC, and hopefully play well. I'm used to upset with modern games though. They just don't make them like they used to.

Loki79 03-31-2011 06:31 AM

I'm just looking forward to Portal 2. That one is getting my cash fo sho!
I expect the cake to play hard2get.
