Fucking Edgar. :nono: |
i have a 1/2 coil cut on the rear on mine. i have tokico blues with the tokico springs, the front was set perfect, but the rear set high, so they got cut
|
Pretty sure if you cut stock springs on stock shocks you'll be riding on the bump stops alot more often then you would like to.

Cutting springs works for making a car lower to the ground, and that's about it considering the super soft stock springs. |
cutting aftermarket springs on aftermarket struts isnt really a big deal, but stock springs on stock struts is a big no no
|
somebody should point gord to this thread
|
if you can't derive the spring equation, dont cut your springs. I think that's a fair way to go about it, dont you?

Do you mean deriving the F = 1/2*k*x^2 equation, k being a constant? I'm stupid on my calculus since its been a while...would the answer be dF/dx = 1/2*k*2x? Even if that is right...I still think I'd have a shop do the work.

I have cut springs on my current daily 94 se-r, it's pretty low, looks better. Ride quality sucks on bumpy road, and it's very easy to get the bumpstops. Do it.

not that spring equation, the one that predicts the spring constant from the material the spring is made from and how it's wound.

F1 teams cut springs to get the car lower, and remove the bumpstops. That way, when you block the spring or hit frame its like running a really big sway bar.

yeah, I cut the springs on the jeep because the center collar had rusted to the bolt and I couldn't get them off.
|
I can't decide if I want to cut my springs first or get an emblem that expresses the diameter of my rimz.
|
I am now dumber after reading this thread ... If you want cheap and lower, at least get something like the ebay coilovers that have higher springrates (who knows what they actually are).
