Dayton OH?
Anyone know anything about Dayton OH? I'm moving there later this summer to attend AFIT for my master's degree. I'm not terribly excited about moving away from Denver but I can't pass up the opportunity to get paid to go to school. I'm curious about areas to live in, things to do, ect. Thanks!
It sucks, never anything to do.
I just moved up here 4 months ago and I'm 15 mins away from where you are going.
Good areas to live are Beavercreek (closest to you), Centerville, Kettering and Oakwood.

Compared to Denver? Dayton is generally a ****-hole and you most likely will not like it.
At least compared to Denver...
If it's only a couple of years for school then it shouldn't be that bad.

ive been to denver, and have been to Dayton... Dayton doesnt hold a candle to denver...
BUT, cleveland, cincinatti, and Toledo arent terrible, and not to far, just a matter of driving a couple hours

On the plus side, Dayton is home to a number of interesting electronics parts suppliers. Dalco and Parts Express are both headquartered there (well, technically in Springboro, which is a suburb), and Mendelson's is in a cool old warehouse building downtown.
On the minus side, everything else.
But at least it's not Cleveland.

Yeah, that's true. Good airshow. Actually, Wright-Patterson is a pretty cool place to visit even when there's no airshow going on.

I heard the military doesn't fly at the airshow anymore due to budget issues, that was the best part when I went there b/c the jets where the most interesting part for me.

It's kind of interesting- the airshow takes place on the grounds of the Dayton International Airport, which is a medium-sized passenger facility. So you look at the taxiways leading up to the runway, and you'll see an A-10, followed by a 737, followed by a B-17, followed by an MD-80, followed by a pair of MiG-21s...
I know that the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels are both grounded right now, but I'd assume that the Snowbirds are picking up the slack, no?

Thanks for the input guys. Being that Dayton/Wright Pat is the center of the Air Force engineering universe it was only a matter of time before I ended up there. I don't know what my follow on assignment will be yet but I'm hoping it'll be elsewhere. Either way, there are still MUCH worse places to be stationed.
For those that have lived there, what's the singles scene like? Any decent women to be had? I know, strange question for a miata forum.

Your going to be living in a "city" where you wont be surrounded by other military dudes, you shouldn't have too much trouble, even if your a little funny looking. It is Ohio after all.
Btw, are you an officer?

Cool, I think SamNavy is an O3 too (Captain in the creamcorn is O3, i assume its the same in the airforce). I'm a lance corporal in the marine corps (E3).
There are some good roads in southern OH (as well as any part of the Ohio river vally) and I believe there are some nice parks if your into fishing and camping, the river is good for fishing. Probably some decent hunting in the area too. Cinci has some clubs if thats what your into.
