It's amazing to me how everyone is a tough guy when they get in their car. Take a reasonable human being. You know, a "please", "thankyou", hold the door open, "excuse me", kinda guy. Put him in a car and suddenly he's a raging maniac, swearing, gesturing, threatening, driving like an ******* SOB. I catch myself falling into the same trap and mindset too.

Never thought of it that way. Outside of the car I am a nice guy. I hold the door open for people, always say yes ma'am and no ma'am, yes sir and no sir to elderly, generally handle myself in a polite way, the way I was raised. Put me in a car and I turn into the biggest dick. MOVE YOU ******* CRUSTY OLD BASTARD!!! Hit the steering wheel and make hand gestures. I guess its just the fact that the road can be dangerous. One stupid move by someone and it can cost you your life, so I don't like people to drive anything less but considerate and well around me. I take it as an offense against me and my safety, so I don't take it lightly. I don't ride peoples bumpers or pass unsafely, so I expect the same from everyone else within 100 yards of my car. I already have a short fuse, so when people do drive like **** around me it sets me off really easily.

I've got more a problem with people that seem to think the left lane belongs to them.

Houston sucks for this.

One day when I'm rich I'm going to buy a big old blocky Buick and just start running into people that don't move over as I approach them as they sit in the left lane for no damn reason doing limit-10mph.

There have been studies on this effect. It's been mentioned here before. The perceived danger, isolation and insulation from others, claiming your space, anonymity and more all play into the psychology of it.

When you are at a standstill you are much more likely to let someone into traffic ahead of you. You can see their face and communicate with each other in some fashion, politely, by gesture, lip reading or facial expressions. You both say please and thank you, give a little wave and you feel good about being helpful. All that changes when the car is moving. You are much less likely to let someone over in front of you. Suddenly they are invading your space, encroaching on what you perceive is yours, they are inconveniencing you, they are seen as rude. You get the "The hell you are cutting me off *******" attitude as you push forward to block them from coming over. A moving car and the lack of more intimate personal contact completely changes the psychology of drivers.

Who's to say I wont knock your teeth out? I've had my fair share of road rage incidents over the years, I have yet to walk away injured. I don't get myself into situations I cant handle. I'm down to box in the middle of the street anyday of the week. Someone pulling out a gun, thats a different story. Not sure what I would do in that situation.

I don't go out looking for trouble, but if it finds me I'm ******* ready for it. I should also mention that was years ago and just one of my many moments I had. I like to think I'm a different person now. So don't hate me.....please.

I have never flipped anyone off, but also think to myself that letting that guy in front of me will make about a whole 3 second difference on my drive home.

A lot of the times there are a bunch of things you don't know about that are influencing you in a negative manner. Like if you're in your car and no one is moving, you get pissed off, but then you might start going and realize there was a school bus in front. Some people are just ********, but most of they time they're just like you - trying to get home and are being negatively effected by you or someone else in some way and taking it out on you. I know I've cut people off because I couldn't see them in my blind spot, texted people at a light and it turned green, totally missed a stop sign because I was unfamiliar with the are, etc. It's not because I'm a bad driver, just these things happen and you're bound to encounter someone else's rare occurrence too.

Inefficiency is what pisses me off. Having a light at rush hour that only lets 3 cars through at a time pisses me off. People using the left lane to cruise pisses me off. Horrible road design pisses me off. These are problems that can be fixed and usually pretty easily. I'd rather be pulled over for staying in the left lane than for speeding.

Sounds like your looking for trouble by flipping a lit cigarette into someones car because they flipped you off. Sounds like the guy in the big redneck truck that threw a half full big gulp fountain drink through my window at a light because he didn't like the fact that the 10 cars in front of me where going slow and I brake checked him for riding pretty much with his front bumper over my trunk. If I had been old enough to carry concealed then I don't know that I would have been able to control my temper enough to not pull it on him. Senseless **** like that is uncalled for. Its one thing to yell or gesture, its another to damage someone else's property because you have an attitude problem.

Quit your bitchin guys. Try living in a place with ONLY ONE ROAD to get where you are going and make that road 180miles long with one lane going up and one lane going down.

Trust me, the **** gets really frustrating really fast. I lost it with some douche bag NewYork tourist trying to pass people the other day. After causing nearly 2 accidents the mother ****** stops at the triangle, going right, that doesn't have a stop sign or a yield sign. This would be okay except all the locals KNOW NOT TO STOP here because it causes really bad back ups and LOTS of accidents and the fact that you don't need to stop because you have your own lane!!!!!!!. I give the guy a second but he doesn't move, so I blip the horn once and he looks at me in the mirror. I jesture with my hand for him to go and he just looks away and continues to sit there looking for non-exsistant traffic. I stand on the horn and he finally goes. I try to get around him becuase he is danger in such a small town. Then the cherry **** cuts me off twice and finally I get around him and we end up side by side at the light. I have my windows down, blasting KillWhitneyDead and the dude looks at me and gives me some nasty looks and mutters something with his windows still up. I honk the horn to get his attention and flip him off with boths hands looking right at him. His jaw drops and looks away. I hate being the bad guy but, at that time, I just didn't care.

I swwear, tourist need to be told that passing cars can save a maximum of only 5 minutes when traveling from Big Pine Key to Key West, seriously we have so many accidents here from tourist trying to rush things because they are "real city drivers". I am almost too nervous to take my car down to the college now because of all the tourist and there reckless driving.

End rant/

Oh and the sprayers on the GTO are pretty pimp. I have a better solution though...

Wow what a bunch of bad asses here.

Jeez, just move out of the way, if someone is in that much of a hurry, let them go by. It's not that hard. Is getting shot, or going to jail really worth a little spot on the road? Most of the guys here are pretty smart, DIY Turbo setups aren't for idiots. Even a nolo contendere to aggravated assault will ruin many a career, or future career prospects. Not to mention, many idiots out there, place their pride ahead of all common sense, and future consequences. They will toss their future down the drain, to teach you a lesson. Are they bad ***? Sure. Are they stupid? You bet.

I do a lot of driving on twisty mountain roads, when I'm with the family in the SUV I let a lot of people go by. Not in a hurry, don't want the kids to get sick, etc. No worries, it takes 5 seconds out of my life to let they cruise on by.

In my sport cars, or by my self, it's another story. It's now me coming up on peoples asses. I usually give them a couple of car lengths for 4 or 5 turnouts. If they haven't pulled over yet, I pull up gradually increasing my aggressiveness. Usually this works and they find a turnout, I wave thanks as I go by. Sometimes they don't exercise their ability to be polite, and insist on their right to hold up faster moving traffic. This really pisses me off, especially on my favorite sections of the road. I then pass at the next passing lane. Do I flip them off? Brandish a weapon? Nope. Do I want to? You bet. But my job is more important than trying to teach this ******* a lesson, one that he is probably to stupid to learn anyway. My wife needs her husband, the boys need their father. Does this make me a *****? No, It makes me an adult.

I just reread that. It's kinda pompous, take it with a grain of salt, it's been a really long day.

Why am I going to take my time to pull off the road to let some ******* ******* who is late to work pass me? I never drive under the speed limit, always at or just above (depending on how stupidly slow the posted limit is), so if you are on my ***, you are already going too fast. If you are late, thats too damn bad, should have left earlier. If you are a bad *** and want to pull a weapon on me thats fine, you will get one right back at you. Some people might be fine with letting people walk all over them while on the road, but I am not one to get road hustled.

I agree that tossing a cigarette at that guy was dick. If it happened to me I would probably go ape **** and kill a bitch. But like I said, that was years ago and alot has changed since then.

Even thinking about pulling a gun on someone because they wronged you in traffic is ridiculous. The only weapons I would ever pull on someone is my left hand hospital, and my right hand cemetery.

NA6C, don't get you ***** in a bind cause I called you out for jerking off to children. Go ask for advice on faith or something....

That was the scene I was involved in two days ago. I merged into the left lane, and the ******* in the SUV I merge into didnt like it I guess. The ************ steps on the horn and puts the high beams on. Then he gets around me and tries to run me out of the road. I got behind him and taunted him till the next red light. I got next to the ************ and he did nothing. I also had then "pry-bar to the headlight" fantasy in that moment.

Chris

It seems to be popular belief in the US that the left lane is for crusing and the right lane for passing . O_o
