Do you store your SAE tools in your primary tool chest?
 

I did my annual cleanup of my tool chests today disposing of crap I accumulate over the year. When I was almost done, I realized my SAE tools take up half the space in my tool chest and are almost never used.

I took all the SAE tools and put them in an old tool box and they are now sitting in a corner in the garage. It sure freed up a lot of space for the tools I do use.

Just wondering what others do with their SAE tools.

Huh, what's SAE? Oh wait those are the one's I use on every other car I have to work on because my whole family loves domestics :jerkit:

I hve the top half of my tool box devoted to metric stuff...then a few droors of SAE stuff, then all the universal stuff like BFH's towrds the bottom.

Between cars, home repairs/upgrades and other such, I tend to have a need for both sets.

Like KPLAFIN, I just have multi-drawer toolbox and tend to keep things sorted.

I keep my SAE with my metric. The half inch is labeled 13mm and the 9/16 is labeled 14mm.

oh and the 3/8 is labeled 10mm.

right now I have enough 2" drawers where metric and sae wrenches and things can be separate. but not quite equal as I probably have 3 metric pieces to every 1 sae. only 1/4 drive stuff is all together.

i have a metric drawer, and a SAE drawer. but the sae still hardley ever gets used.

my sae sockets are all throw in a baby wipe tub in my top drawer, and my wrenches are kind of just thrown in the back of the wrench drawer

I haven't bought an SAE tool in many years, but the ones I do have are relegated to a separate drawer in the toolbox.

Noob question here, but at least I didnt start a thread on it.

I looked through the m.net garage and couldnt find the info, but I heard some word that you can work on a miata with a certain set of metric sizes and you wont need anything else.

Does anyone know what these are?

For ex. all bolts in the miata are 10mm, 14mm, 19mm, ect. I'm attempting to start a tool set and this rumour would save me some cash-ola.

I know there are several 17MM's and I'm pretty sure there are a few 21MM's, it's been about a year since i've done anything major to one though (sold the 1.6's and just picked upt he 95 about a month ago) so i've forgotten bolt sizes.

I'd have to say the most common sizes on a miata are 10, 12, 14, 17 mm

8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 17mm. Would be common stuff, well maybe not the 8mm so much unless you need to remove a headlight lid.

I have a small tool collection, but I keep a full rail of sockets, wrenches, some specialty miata shit just in case, a gallon of water, oil/power steering/gear oil/brake fluid, extra accessory belts, and a timing belt because you never know. I even have an extra front and rear bearing in the trunk. I'll have extra nuts and studs for the turbo and downpipe when I get that shit installed. I keep all this shit in a duffel bag so I can take them from one miata to another.

I have paranoia problems, but I've been stranded by previous cars easily more than 20 times. I couldn't even make it on a 45 minute trip in the old vw's without something going wrong. The Corrado, Jetta, and TT were this bad.

God damn Hustler that's probably 50 lbs of shit in your trunk. The only thing in my trunk besides the battery is one bottle of oil.

get 8mm-32mm and you should be good to go, i have all my small stuff in deep sockets too...a must have

mine are currently in a closet collecting dust.
