Should have got a new one. Just won Internation Bike of the Year, well the '08 model did at least.

I think a 600 is plenty fast, I can't imagine what 170hp on a bike feels like.....

Congrats on the litre bike. I loved my GSXR 1000 untill it was stolen.

I then replaced it with a Duc, never buy a Ducati. Biggest pile of **** on two wheels I ever owned. It was worse than my Triumph I had. Never stayed running for more than 2 months at a time, and I bought it new. Ended up selling it back to the dealership 8 months later and got a Kawi ZX11R.

I love my Duc, the look, the sound, and especially passing all the poseurs on literbikes on the track with 100 fewer hp. That bike's a beast though, have fun with it.

Nice! Been thinking of a CBR as I know a few people that like them. And I've sat on them and they just feel more comfortable. My buddies 626 Ninja was too tall and the Suzuki I just didn't like. But 1liter bikes are scary. I already think I'd kill myself on a 600.

I put 25k miles on my Falco in 3 years. I paid $500 for a full service at 16k miles, and that was the only money other than aftermarket parts and oil changes that I spent on it.

Ducati's are still luck-o-the-draw when it comes to service. Aprilia engines are made by Rotax... my mechanic said that he'd seen 100k mile Futuras roll through his shop with the valves all still within spec.

I had several groups that I rode with in SoCal and I never got left behind in the canyons. I couldn't have led the groups, and 50 extra horsepower would only mean I had that much more throttle I couldn't explore because the bike was already 300% more capable than my skill level. One of the guys I rode with had an old beat-*** Kawi 650 standard. He could use all of the bike, and all of it's power, and would ride circles around me constantly. It was humbling.

I guess the bottom line is that if you've got the cash AND a small *****, maybe a brand new jap litrebike is for you... but if you're me, and hung like Shetland pony, you can manage to get away with less.

Got a chance to ride an r1 and that ride lasted all of like a minute. Turned it around and told my buddy to keep his devil bike! I can't trust myself with such power!

I'm in the start small and work your way up club.

I started on a Honda CM400, then a Yamaha XS650, both standards.

My first real sport bike was a Kawasaki EX500, which was a BLAST for a few years.

Even after all that, the Daytona was downright wicked when I started riding it. I never felt I could use it anywhere near it's true potential like the Kawi.

I had the opportunity of riding a friend's CM400T. I could now ride that bike to it's full potential after a decade on other bikes. Kind of enlightening.

Displacement does not dictate riding skill.

not so much the fixing all the time, but paying more for less performance makes no sense to me when the japanese bikes are amazing and beautiful machines.

The price of parts to fix the Italian bikes are absolutely ******* ridiculous! They make Harleys seem cheap to fix.Your 100% correct,the Japanese bikes are far more advanced in technology than the Italian bikes will ever be.

People generally put down the Japanese bikes,but what they don't care to realize is,alot more people buy them and they are far more reliable and cheap to fix(when they do break down)than their Italian counterparts.

When the time comes for me to get a bike,I will be staying far away from anything Italian & British and head to the nearest Kawi dealership.I would much rather be out riding than fixing the bike or selling parts off the car just to pay for parts to have it fixed.

sweet bike man! Yes, riding season is here in the northeast, high 55 this weekend, still a bit chilly, lol. I have an 03 CBR 600RR, plenty fast for me, and enough to get you in trouble.
