The serious part of that answer is that nobody has ever bothered to import a car that can be found by the hundred thousands in their home continent.

I suggest you find a US-based Skyline forum and see what they say. Make sure you let them know that you're planning on importing a Miata.

I'm a little disappointed. This one is related, but nowhere as amusing to me.

I was merely asking the question to try to save money buying a car to keep and make a project out of than buying one only to lose money on the resale. But I see now, dumb question dumb thought according to everyone. Again, thanks. My butt hurts real bad.

You won't save enough money to make the hassle worth it.

Again, importing a vehicle back to the states would be free for me. But yes, as you guys seem to think.

Again, you won't save enough money to offset the hassle. You wouldn't save ANY money at all if you were importing on your dime, in fact, you'd lose money.

Even with the importing being free, you won't say enough money to offset the hassle.

Have i made myself clear? Or do i need to repeat it again?

Ok, so you are getting it moved for "free" (my dime) and that's great (******.)

What we are saying is that the associated registration, importation fees, EPA paperwork, customs fuckery, title issuance, etc are going to cost you more than buying a $3,000 clean domestic NA once you get back from the UK.

Is that clear enough?

If you are going to go through the hassle to import something RHD, at least import something cool

Well, I think it's cool anyway.

Hey OP, if you're still here: Thanks for your service.

Also, EO2K posted above a great point. If you're going to import something, import something really unique and cool!

Find an old Sierra Cosworth, or maybe a TVR or something AWESOME.

I, for one, certainly wouldn't miss out on the opportunity to ship an awesome european car over for free (to you).

No, it won't. You're not the only overseas Military guy on here, and damn sure not the first to want to bring a car back with him. Do some more research, not on car enthusiast forums full of anecdotal evidence, but on websites ending in .gov.

Trust me on this, it's much more expensive than you think.

Need proof? Just look around. If it were cost effective, or even affordable for the average enlisted person, don't you think
the CONUS would be crawling with "rare" RHD vehicles from overseas?
