Does your girlfriend/wifey dive on stick?

Just wondering, im glad my g/f actually can drive stick and has an intrest in cars, anyone else this lucky? :eek5:

samnavy 04-03-2008 11:19 PM

My wifes' DD is our '06 MS6. She loves driving it. I don't think I'll ever talk her into a auto. Her first car was an MX-3, then an '02 Celica, now the MS6, all manual's. What's awesome... she can actually tell you what boost is and how the turbo works.

Efini~FC3S 04-03-2008 11:30 PM

My fiancee has always driven stick (3 different cars) and I know she prefers it. She wants a Honda Pilot though so...

Milton Tucker 04-03-2008 11:33 PM

It’s all I can do to keep my GF out of my normally aspirated miata, the one with the kick ass radio. She won’t drive the turbo car, and the world is a safer place.:giggle:

urgaynknowit 04-03-2008 11:33 PM

my gf steals my car all the time, just to boost around,
she takes her sister to the store, then i get texts from her sister saying how she wont shut up about how quick the spool time is since the 3" turbo back install

If my g/f did that I would probably hug her to death when she returned home. ;)

Bryce 04-03-2008 11:40 PM

My GF rides a Yamaha FZ6 but wants to drive the Miata at the next autocross. :eek5:

kotomile 04-03-2008 11:41 PM

My wife drives the SRT4, so yes.

miataspeed1point6 04-03-2008 11:54 PM

I was trying to teach my g/f to drive stick. We used her brothers SVT Focus, but the shifter was too notchy for her to drive easily. I got her into my Miata and she was doing pretty well.

After a few days she said shifting was stupid and not worth it. I guess she just got tired of it. Oh well, with the 6 puck going it I won't ever have to share it.

cjernigan 04-04-2008 12:58 AM

The g/f is scared of the clutch in the miata and thinks manual transmissions are a waste of time. I tried to teach her on my truck and she did great until she backed us into the ditch and then almost into a telephone poll. That was the end of that and when it comes to driving i'm in the driver seat 90% of the time. The other 10% is her driving her own car when we're on road trips, its an automatic.

miatamania 04-04-2008 01:58 AM

Mine can drive it fairly well...even with the XT PP and 9lb flywheel. She actually got BETTER when I put those in, because she could feel the clutch engagement. She just hates driving it though.

Zarniwoop42 04-04-2008 04:47 AM

my girl drives stick and prefers it that way. She has never had an auto. She could give two shits about cars though, she starts rolling her eyes 2 seconds BEFORE i ever bring anything up.

jsinnard 04-04-2008 06:38 AM

With a title like does she like to "dive on stick".... I wasn't thinking about her and a manual transmission. ;)

Ben 04-04-2008 07:42 AM

not a chance. i can't even get her to learn using the argument "what if there were an emergency and the only car available to drive is a stick?".

drewbroo 04-04-2008 08:03 AM

When my wife and I went car shopping, she wanted a new corolla. I said the only way I will sign the paperwork is if she gets a stick and learns how to drive it. Shes put about 30K miles on it so far.

Newbsauce 04-04-2008 08:13 AM

My girlfriend loves riding in the miata, and keeps asking to learn to drive stick. I tell her "Once you learn you can drive it, but you won't learn on my car". Then I make her make me a sandwich and do the laundry.

sbrian2 04-04-2008 08:19 AM

My wife has always driven a manual except for the past few vehicles that have been SUV's. Her current ride is an automatic Trailblazer SS, but the 395 hp/400 ft-lbs LS2 makes up for it. She has also autocrossed as long as I have and is the current SCCA E-Stock Ladies National Champion! :)

msydnor 04-04-2008 08:25 AM

My wife is not what I consider an enthusiest but she drive a stick.

Braineack 04-04-2008 08:41 AM

my wife learned how to drive a on turbo 5-spd mazda. when she wanted a prelude she couldn't find a 5-sp for sale so settled on the auto, when it craps the bucket she wants another prelude with a 5-sp.

PAT! 04-04-2008 08:58 AM

Sadly no. Come to think of it, I don't think any girl that I've dated could...

Samnavy,

You by any chance on the mazdas247 forum?

levnubhin 04-04-2008 08:59 AM

NOPE! and thats the way I want it.

y8s 04-04-2008 10:04 AM

my gf's first car was a stick.

most of my gfs drove sticks. and could parallel park.

saturn dealerships will teach them how to drive a stick if you look like a customer.

Saml01 04-04-2008 10:45 AM

Wheres the choice "wants to learn, but I havent gotten around to actually letting her practice".

Doppelgänger 04-04-2008 10:56 AM

let's see.. i have a turbo Miata.... my gf has a turbo Miata....... yup.

chriscar 04-04-2008 11:07 AM

My wife drives an '06 GTi 6 speed, before that was an '03 VR6 GTi 6 speed, '01 Wolfsburg 5 speed, you get the picture.

When the '06 came out, I told her about the DSG trans, how all the magazines raved about it, and suggested she at least test drive one. No dice, she wanted something with a clutch.

polaris7 04-04-2008 11:13 AM

When I first met my girlfriend she said she won't drive an automatic and won't date anybody that drives an automatic.

Samnavy,

You by any chance on the mazdas247 forum?

I've got a login there, but never use it except for the occasional bit of homework or claffifieds. I hit up Mazda6Club in the Mazdaspeed6 forum a couple times a week to make sure I'm not missing anything. I go to RX7 club once a week to check the classifieds.

Mach929 04-04-2008 12:31 PM

she drives an auto but her next car will be manual, she can do it, just not real well without practice. she's driven us home when i was too drunk to drive

im teaching my g/f to drive stick right now. she already drives without stalling but still scared to go on big streets

LOLA - 92 04-04-2008 12:57 PM

She can, but really doesn't like it. Has a problem making coffee...
I'd rather that she dive on someone elses stick :jerkit:

olderguy 04-04-2008 01:19 PM

:bigtu:Check the title. As long as she is doing it on only mine, fine. :bigtu:

Prospero 04-04-2008 02:39 PM

Bought my wife a MS3 and she's good at driving it... she's always been quite the sporty girl so it wasn't too hard to get her out of her 285HP Volvo and into something new and more nimble. So now that she's got a new car, her 2nd ever new ride, she's too nervous to drive it in traffic or alone. So she steals my turboed miata for her runs around town and I'm stuck with the MS3 most of the time... not that I am bitchin tho!

Cheers,
Prospero

meh......late-comers.....

Check post #13...... I voted yes cuz she does.

Taught the wife and the daughter to drive a stick in my old 91 toyota pickup in an open parking lot. Still can't remember why I taught the wife but I taught the daughter so if she was ever stuck someplace and the only way home was to drive a manual transmission, she would know how to do it.

Scuba_Steve 04-04-2008 09:23 PM

Yup. She is 56 and has never owned an automatic.

Yup, she has always had a standard. She is way into cars, mostly from her dad.

First car - Mini S
Second - '03 Accord V6 (Greddy cat back, wheels, suspension work)
Now - '05 STi (too many mods to list)

Wanna go tradesies?

coastertrav 04-04-2008 11:31 PM

Nope...she is a keeper.

Cooks, cleans, into cars, and wants to go to law school.

I couldn't have asked for more if I had been given the chance.

hackerchris 04-04-2008 11:42 PM

I'm game for trading too. Hell, I will include my car. ;)

wildfire0310 04-05-2008 02:49 AM

none of the exs have driven a stick.

I tried teaching one for that whole just incase and she started to learn really well from the start and got scared and was never able to finish. Just glad I never hurt myself skating.

Torkel 04-07-2008 05:02 AM

My Fiancee does not trust automatics and refuses to drive them. We have never owned anything else then stick shift cars.

She gave a sales guy the burn of his life when we test drove an RX-8 with the 6-speed auto. I shifted with the paddles on the wheel, of course and he offered to “put it automatic mode, if mam wants to drive it”. She told him that “autos, paddle and what not” was for “little boys to play with” and said that she would drive an RX-8 the day he had one with a proper stick on the lot.

Toddcod 04-07-2008 01:41 PM

My girl loves the 5-speed. I bought her a super clean auto miata. I have had to buy bolt ons and rims to make her happy. And she still wants a turbo.

She claims she is going to steal my 5-speed when I get the turbo on! Lol
She says the red one is hers, and so is the turbo car. Lol
I told her to finish her degree and buy her own. LOL

Toddcod 04-07-2008 01:44 PM

Girl Can Drive A 5-speed

My girl wants me to get the turbo car together so she can out run my friends and tell them "YOU WERE BEAT BY A GIRL!". lol

My G/F can parallel park and back into places like a mother fucker. I think she is better than I am at parking.

motleyfool777 04-09-2008 04:29 PM

She can drive a stick shift but then goes out to buy an autotragic Scion.

My wife knows how to drive a stick; autoxes with me occasionally (she'll atleast go out and watch); can identify cars/models; drives a Honda Pilot and is quick to romp on it if she thinks someone is getting a little frisky at a light.

johndoe 04-10-2008 07:58 AM

i taught mine how to drive stick last year so she could take a car from her parents that they couldn't drive...she actually learned faster than I did. An NA miata is an easy car to learn to drive in. On the other hand she HATES cars and my hobby, but tolerates it.

pjm 04-25-2008 11:14 PM

Mine always has! Why would you want one that didn't?

Her first car was a real Mini....... with a really long one!

She has problems bleeding clutches cause it is not hard when she finishes going down and up!

She seems to sleep a lot at Dyno days!

TonyV 04-25-2008 11:29 PM

my wife was born/raised in germany...many years with stick+autobahn...thats y i married her
She's a closet enthusiast...rolls her eyes about car talk, mods, etc...But then gets in the car and rips thru the gears..prob better than me
