Drive to event on V700's ???

OK, I've never owned "real" tires before now. I just bought a set of 13" V700's (used for 1 season) and I have my first autox coming up next weekend (XP class). The event is 20 miles away and I'd like to just drive on those tires. Any problems with that? I'll probably never do more than 3-4 events a year MAX so I think age will be the death of these tires, not wear.

The reason I ask is that I would like to take my every day Falken Azenis and put them on my wife's Miata (SM2). If I don't drive on the Kumhos to the event I will have to change swap my tires to her car one at a time as I swap on the Kumhos. 16 tire changes will be too damn many...

20 miles, you should be fine unless there is moderate-heavy rain.

No top, no windows, no wipers, no heater = no autox in the rain <G>...

I didn't drive to road course events on race tires because I wasn't willing to use them if they got a puncture repair. Not sure if I'd do it in an autoX event either.

no dont. You will kill the tires of faster you street drive them

m2cupcar 03-12-2007 10:22 AM

huh? I thought you were a teacher? :gay:
I'm assuming debris is the risk because you sure as hell aren't heat cyclying them driving on the street.

I'm work in math not lit lol.

But yes the tires are soft and well wear faster even driving on the street. My friend killed of a pair in half the time because he would drive to events on them.

well there ya go- never tried it, so I never knew.

how is driving 20 normal miles going to wear them down? a lap at the track will wear them faster than 100 road miles.

V700s are Victoracers, right? I say go for it. I've driven on R3S04s to events with no problems, and that's a much softer tire than the 700s. If they were 710s I'd be hesitant.

Half the time? So they lasted him 1000 miles vs 2000? I've never owned soft tires like these before so I have no idea how long they will last. I'll drive a grand total of less than 30 laps of 30 seconds each on them this year - probably the same next year. Think they will last me two years (they already have some use on them but aren't down to the wear bars or anything)?

I put close to 5000 street km on my ra-1 when they were at about 4/32nd. Got 2 seasons out of them. They will pick up a lot of road debris, having mud flaps would be a bonus.

no worries.

i used to run v700s in the summer as my street tires. it's fine and good.

Yeah, thought about throwing a set of flaps on there (I have a set somewhere) but the thought of the extra weight would just kill me <G>.

Painters tape her.

oh yeah...

you don't get a lot of tailgaters driving on r-tires. you'll toss up a ton of debris.
