Driving in Baja...
Driving a slow car fast on the deserted curvy highway going up and down the southern part of the Baja peninsula, is more fun than driving a fast car in the USA when encumbered by cops and slowpokes. I was regularly hitting 100-110 mph. All else being equal, I'd trade my fast street cars for fun, deserted cop-free roads.
It was a VW "Gol". I guess Spanish speakers can't pronounce an 'f' that comes after a consonant. Felt like a 1.4L motor or so. Half-decent handling feel despite tippy-toe ride height and tiny tires. That is all. |
Welcome to God's Country. Sounds like you had a blast.
(I miss the southwest...) And it's not all Spanish speakers, just the west-coast Mexicans. Cubans can pronounce the "f" in Golf, though admittedly the "ou" gets chewed on a bit. |

And those same roads are miserable when in a box van heading to the airport after a long night of partying, at least from a passenger's point of view... |

I drove from San Jose Cabo to Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos, and La Paz. Stayed at a surfing resort south of Todos Santos. The swim-with-the-whale-sharks thing in La Paz was very cool. When you see them live the size of em is shocking (12+ ft) One of em even bumped me in the ass while I was treading water ("Excuse me!") |

BTW the mouth of the whale shark reminded me of this, minus the lipstick:
