E85 tuning, anyone here running it?
The big thing right now where I live is converting your car to E85(85% ethanol fuel). The procedure is different depending on the vehicle, but for most cars it means larger injectors, higher powered fuel pump, sometimes different fuel lines and injector seals, and of course a tune on the stuff. Just curious if this is big anywhere else around the country. I've seen everything from a 400hp E85 turboed 4 dr civic, to a E85 tuned turboed v6 automatic camaro. People are getting some crazy power with this and quite a few shops are doing it around here.

I am getting ready to make the transition myself, I just got my 1600 cc/min low impedance injectors and I will be ordering the fuel pump very soon. I was running about 300 RWHP on 93 octane pump fuel and expect to punch out around 450 RWHP on 105 Octane E85. Mark |
if the fuel were more available here I'd do it on the gto in a heartbeat.
|
though I'd have to do a MAJOR fuel system upgrade to run that much fuel.
|
Yea...my buddies v6 turboed camaro ran a 13.24 at 110mph today on the stuff. It seems to be growing in popularity around here...but I know that there are only a few stations that sell it and other places it is pretty much unheard of.

13,2?
christ I can do better than that at over 6,000 feet in altitude. |
I'd run it if cost effective...but its not. If they'd get real on price, so it were even with gasoline, I'd be all over it.
|
less fuel mileage with e85 :bigtu: It would be worth the cost at about 20% less

Isn't one of the members here running E85 making 470ish rwhp?

The first 1320ft falling off the 6000ft cliff? :gay: It's not to bad for a v6 considering the weight of THAT car.

So I called Kroger in Dallas figuring that it might be astronomical in your neck of the woods. They told me $2.70 a gallon. Bitch Please! That's cheap for 105 octane race gas. Mark |

How can you say it's not cost effective. It's fucking $2.40 cents a gallon in San Antonio, TX. The cheapest premium is going for is $2.90 (good luck finding many stations at that price.)

Yes, compared to other forms of fuel that allow you to run much more timing advance and boost, it is cheap. |

So it costs ~21% less, but it also has only ~72% the energy content of gasoline, so each gallon of ethanol will net fewer miles than a gallon of gasoline. But you knew that :)
Yes, compared to other forms of fuel that allow you to run much more timing advance and boost, it is cheap. I realize that this is what you already know. I just want to drive the point home for the E85 haters out there. Mark PS - 550 cc/min injectors would max out around 270 RWHP even with 60 PSI of base fuel pressure. This is why I switched to 1600 cc/min injectors, that's a little overkill but my 880's will max out at about 400 RWHP. |
yeah but with e85 you will only be able to make 200 or so whp on the 550's that is bullshit. we only have so much room for a fuel tank, i hope e85 blows up in there face.
