East Coast Ski destinations?
 

planning a ski trip for January
i'd really like to hit Vermont or Maine
any info, experience, advice as to prime spots, etc?

I've always wanted to ski Mad River Glen.

i'm really liking the way Stowe Mountain resort looks. Pricey but worth it. I'd like the resort type, as everything is close, food, etc., no inbreds if we get lost

I live in VT and ski a lot (all 3 kids were racers).

Stowe is expensive, but a strong resort for the east.

If it's a good snow year, Mad River is an exceptional place for terrain and old school feel.

Smugglers Notch has the worst lifts in the country, and not so on trails... but in a good snow year, the back country access is the best in the east. You can hike out to some amazing birch forests and chutes off the long trail.

Jay is worth a trip of north, with good snowfall for the east.

Sugarbush is a large mountain with mostly intermediate terrain.

But your best bet is to go to Big Sky in MT, or Snowbird. It doesn't get any better than that.

And when you are ready to try the crack cocaine of the ski world, go heli skiing. You need to do this once in your life!

however I'm from Norway so nothing can top Norefjell area IMHO ha
i'm thinking we're gonna go with Stowe, just because everything will be easier, and we feel like splurging for this vacation. i only get vacation in the winter months with my job

Why not the West coast?

If you want to just drive and not worry about flying, Snowshoe Mountain, WV is a awesome resort. I have never been to the NE, but I have been out west and for its location it more than satisfies my need. I try to get at least 2 weekends a year in here. I have been skiing for about 22 years.

I like killington in VT, it's a pretty big mountain and plenty of stuff to do at night

i live in maine i can say sugarloaf is the best mountain this state has. The snow fields on top are bad ass. But be prepared this is one damn cold mountain, colder than most others in my opinion. Check it out online i think you will be interested.

do you offer lodging?

well i'm a few hours away but there is a nice hotel right on the mountain. If you want to hit more than one mountain then i would say stay in north conway new hampshire. with in a half hour drive you drive you have about 4 resorts.
