Exhaust manifold to head studs - Where to find some?
 

I had to cut a stud off and the others are a bit rusty, along with the nuts. I looked into dealer pricing for the nine of them. ~$5.50 each and ~$3 each nut came to ~$85, lol.

Anyone know of a decent substitute source?

I guess I should ask if anybody has a few that aren't rusted to hell?

The ones Lars linked have different thread pitch on each side in the picture. The eBay ones don't. I wonder if the picture is correct on the Amazon link. Description mentions nothing of two different pitches.

I like the zinc for corrosion resistance but don't know if they are as long. I'll need to measure the originals and see also if they have two different thread pitches.

I have the ones I linked to on my car currently. Thread pitch is the same on both sides and they work fine. I can snap a picture of them tonight when I get home if you want to see.

I just went back and looked at the picture. I think Amazon is using the same picture for all the Hallman studs, as it looked like the exactly the same picture for similar items.

The ebay ones I posted are identical to the ones I bought 2 yrs ago and are on my car.

The zinc flakes off on the exhaust ones I've found. Best to get black oxide and just use nickle anti seize.

Another thing that works really well is to cover up the remaining threads with another nut. You're kinda double nutting them, but more like keeping any corrosion from getting on the remaining threads. When you have to take the manifold off months/years later you will thank yourself for how easy it comes apart.

Most of the time you actually don't get what you pay for with hardware, especially online.
Box stores like Home Depot and Lowes are notorious for selling hardware that is a lower quality than they claim it is.
They tend to mix lots, so you have a % of untreated or lower quality stuff mixed in. McMaster Carr is no better.
I know it is more expensive, but if the bolt I need is one that I care about, I always go to Fastenal or a specialist company like ARP.

With all that being said, 95% of the time, a no brand piece of shit bolt will be fine.
I usually only splurge on bolts where failure could potentially cause personal harm. Like wheel studs and frame bolts.
