Default Experience with COPART?

looking to by a miata in my area. my motor is not going to last the rest of this year so i need to get an engine/car and sell the parts i wont use.

A friend told me you can buy up to $1000 bid without using a brokers license but i think this miata will break 1000. Anyone ever use a broker service? Im not sure of the process or if its worth it with all the fees they charge on top on whatever copart fees there are. just looking for some personal opinions and experiences buying a crashed car.

if you're not a licensed dealer (recycler) the fee's are through teh roof, and you still have to find someone that is (most charge a couple hundo to do this for you) even if you get a car for 1000 you're looking at like 1500 all said and done and at your house.

its worth it, but not for most people

A few of my friends used to buy STI's on co-part for swaps before it was even open to the public. Even with a dealer # it still was pretty expensive so they had to really scope out good deals.

Any other (less fee heavy) recommendations for finding salvage vehicles besides looking on craigslist? I've never found one on craigslist, but I assume they are occasionally out there.
