Extractor Hood & 3" Exhaust Whoring

Thanks to Scott and Brian for rigging up this deal, but I picked up my primed and ready for paint Erebuni hood this weekend from VA beach. Pending fitment, 150 dollar extractor hood ftw.

Loki047 10-22-2007 09:43 AM

cjernigan 10-22-2007 09:52 AM

Pretty awesome deal, those hoods look awesome installed.

Zabac 10-22-2007 09:53 AM

It'll fit, you just gonna need to trim it a bit though...and forget the grill in there as well, it'll grind down your valve cover

y8s 10-22-2007 10:03 AM

haha yeah like dan's.... hood doesn't actually fit the front of the motor.

Braineack 10-22-2007 10:12 AM

it actually fits now without trimming needed after he installed his MMR mounts.

Zabac 10-22-2007 11:05 AM

really? well im Dan too but i assume you are not talking about me
i do need to get some of those MMR mounts though, mine are starting to go out
I have about 1-2mm of clearance now, does the other dan have a 1.8 or 1.6, i think it makes a difference

Newbsauce 10-22-2007 11:10 AM

Dan has a 1.6

fourwhls 10-22-2007 11:14 AM

What a deal! Where did you get that?

Hope it works better for you, than it would have for me. Nice to meet you Brad.

I'd like to see some pictures (detailed) once it's installed.

Braineack 10-22-2007 11:16 AM

fourhwhls, needs pics of your garage asap!

fourwhls 10-22-2007 11:19 AM

It's just a little shack in the back yard.

...I'll see if I can find some.

Zabac 10-22-2007 11:25 AM

shacks in back yards make for great keggers, i hope its as good for a garage

Newbsauce 10-22-2007 12:30 PM

Hah he's being a bit modest. He has quite the little setup there in his backyard and it caught me completely off guard.

Braineack 10-22-2007 12:32 PM

oh no. Brad's 3" exhaust FTW!

Braineack 10-22-2007 12:36 PM

Loki, hood was a local sale

cjernigan 10-22-2007 12:36 PM

That muffler is huge, does it bang against that cross member at all?

Braineack 10-22-2007 12:37 PM

same size as mine, only angled. Pic doesn't show the clearances very well, a lot more room than mine actually.

Newbsauce 10-22-2007 12:44 PM

Actually the exhaust does not rattle even the tiniest bit. The shop that did it (Whitey's Automotive) in Chantilly, did a fantastic job. They took off and milled my 3" DP Flange, added a flex section, added a transmission brace, heated the tranny tunnel are and added more clearance, and basically did one fantastic job. I'm taking my car back tomorrow morning since he offered to remove the seized axle problem and do the torsen swap while its up for VERY cheap.

Ben 10-22-2007 12:47 PM

That should be a nice hood. Erebuni should have put the vent 1" further forward so there wouldn't be any fitment issues with 1.8 car. I guess their test car was 1.6 and they didn't think it through.

You're going to need a radiator top plate, if you don't have one yet. Othewise, the extraction vents just further aid the airflow through the mouth and up the radiator support, so you'll actually get even less engine cooling. Ask me how I know :)

Braineack 10-22-2007 12:52 PM

He's got the BEGi one.

Newbsauce 10-22-2007 12:53 PM

Luckily I picked up one of the BEGI ones a bit ago and he tossed in the "embossed looking" sticker. Never regretted it, but definitely will never be as shiny as it used to be :(

Ben 10-22-2007 01:17 PM

neat, looks like your plate fits well. the only 1.6 BEGi plate I've seen in person was a HORRIBLE fit, not even close. So I never ordered one from them.

Newbsauce 10-22-2007 01:27 PM

The fit was fantastic.. the mounting hardware they provided was awful. I ultimately had to end up using self tapping screws to hold it down.

fourwhls 10-22-2007 01:28 PM

I don't have any good shots of my garage here at work, but here are a couple I found. They're not the best, but I think you get the picture.

I think Erebuni was the one, but some company was selling off all of their hoods because they were closing down. They were selling them dirt cheap. I called, but all the Miata ones were gone:td:

Zabac 10-22-2007 03:13 PM

tow hooks-bye bye
