Failed Emissions - sort of...

I thought I'd post this because - well I never had anything like this happen:

I took my car to the Shell up the street for a simple OBD-I emissions. There wasn't a single car in the shop - and there was like 5 mechanics sitting around. I asked if they could do emissions and the head redneck said sure. I went over to the pump and started my miata and pulled it to the bay. He asked me what year (93) and the head mechanic made a scowl and some overdramatic sigh when I told him it was OBD-I. I offered to back the car on the rollers and he told me to get out and wait "45 minutes". He promptly made a show of falling into my race seats. A second later he popped back up out of the seat claiming he hurt himself on the bolsters and said to take my car elsewhere and refused to do my emissions.

Gotta say - first time I've had anyone treat me like that. Any suggestions for payback?

I asked for the owners name (Mark Walker) but doubt I'll ever get ahold of him since he rarely goes into the store. Any other avenues?

In NYS (NoVa may be different), failure to provide an inspection is grounds for them losing the license. Take it up with local law enforcement. Fuck them over for being dicks.

Hmm.

Can't say I blame him, I hate the living shit out of most of the racing seats I've seen in Miatas. Not all of us have the physique of a 14 year old Japanese schoolgirl.

drive over in a junker that you didn't pay actual money for and isn't registered in your name and has a lot of mechanical problems.

get them to do as much work as possible. never return?

The vehicle inspection program is administered by the Virginia State Police. I don't believe they'd be too amused to hear about that, then again they're not known for having a sense of humor in the first place.

Unfortunately, there is no list available on-line of inspection stations in Virginia. The number of inspection stations changes daily due to stations becoming inactive for not having an inspector, going out of business, being suspended for disciplinary reasons, new stations being appointed, reinstated, etc.

If you question the integrity of a safety inspection performed on your vehicle, you should contact the nearest State Police Safety Division Office. An investigation will be conducted per your request to determine if proper inspection procedures were followed. State Police Safety Division Area Office Numbers are listed at the top of this page.

Brad, if you want to pass it (although I'm sure it will) Trong has a shop in Manassas now. Remember the dude that did your clutch? they opened a shop out near Nissan Pavilion.

I would absolutely never take my car to any shop without knowing the people at it. Hell. No.

Does the Direct Exhaust Injection even emit anything?
