Default Fake intecoolers now? WTF?

So on the way home from work tonight, I came up to a stop light, where I saw the riciest looking civic in all of reno right across the light facing my way. I wish my phone can take pics at night but it cant... so ill describe.

It was a white early 90's civic, with the stupidest *** body kit, macco paint job, hood had some shitty peal adhesive mock hood scoop from autozone (I know it is, because one of my friends got one for his truck... idiot.), the ricer esque' 3A Racing, AEM, JDM, V-Tec, Honda, K&N, and Summit Racing decals plastered all over the place (as for the summit racing, everyone in reno/sparks nv with a "performance car" sports this decal, but thankfully you have to buy something $80 or more to get these decals... I have one along with my parts decals on my small windows near the mirrors.), it had one of those no name spoilers that I am pretty sure it sticks to the car, some shitty fart can, and the icing on the cake:

A fake intercooler-looking grill and one of those fake turbo whistles bolted on the exhaust. This fake intercooler wasnt even a good one, it had no definition, no depth... it was just a shiny flat grill plate cut to look like an intercooler!

For one, I didnt even know they went as far as fake intercoolers, but a google search proved that to be true... what is this world coming to?! So far its fake turbo sounds, fake brake covers, fake engine covers... but now intercoolers?!?!

So anyways, these *** nuggets flip a bitch to try and pace me to signal a race... seriously?!?

I led them on, I just flipped my slush-box off Hold (miata OD switch on ATs) and waited. No reving (I at their revs)

as soon as they honked and lights flashed, I was gone.

I was thinking of going to Autozone, spend $100 on crap stuff like fake vents, racing stripes, etc.

THEN, glue to magnetic strips and trim off magnets (so I can stick the items to my car magnetically, then remove as needed).

Drive around like a ricer and have fun.

Except that I really do have more than 200hp at the wheels. The 225 Toyo R1Rs, rollbar and gauges might give it away though.

I remember seeing FMICs...and by FMIC I mean front mount intake charger...those doofy things that are really a large panel filter in a housing that looks like an intercooler...but with piping on just one side. I LOL everytime I see those.

All the uber ricers around here NEVER mess with me...even when I taunt them
You know it's getting bad when the ricers are showing up with SR swapped 240s . Couple of them have tried starting **** on the highway with me, but lose. But the typical vader-winged, pep-boys stickered, fake vented on Motegi wheels ******* never want to have their asses handed to them. Someone once told me that they don't mess with cars when they see high end parts on them. WTF? The only thing that can be identified on the outside of my car are the SSR wheels. So with that logic, they are afriad to run because I have SSRs?

A swoog a target told me he liked my "grill" a while ago. I guess he didn't notice that it wasn't centered, lol.

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard someone recommend, in all seriousness, fitting an intercooler to a n/a car... I'd have about 15 cents.

These encounters usually end in me trying to educate said ricer in FI theory and whatnot...

I bet the intake temps are lower than without one, however, the added volume and other crap i don't feel like listing kill output.

No one dicks with me on the road unless its an old friend from my street racing days. Thing is, alot of them are in jail or have "retired" like me lol so its very rare then I get someone wanting to start something. Not to mention my car doesn not in the slightest sound like something you want to screw around with

Is the rest of the country seriously this caught up in street racing and stoplight drags? I barely have time to think about whether the kid in the automatic Accord in the lane next to me wants to race, I'm too busy trying not to get run off the road by his mom in the Pilot on my other side. Yesterday I saw someone backing down the right shoulder on the interstate, presumably, to take the exit he missed. Sadly, we were at least a mile from the last exit, so he had a ways to go in reverse.

I actually drove my car around with an air filter on one side of my intercooler when I first installed my turbo. I could not get my Begi pipe to fit around my AC and I had to have my car back together Monday morning to get to work. So I threw on a air filter and drove to work. Later that week I pulled out my AC and got my intercooler pipe on correctly.

Luckily I was so broke back in the rice days that I never even bought anything "fake". I did, however, think my Nissan Stanza was a race car... I mean 2.4L I4 SOHC... torque monster.

Where I am I don't really see much stupid stuff like fake intercoolers, huge spoilers etc.. anymore.

Gauges don't give it away. Small gauges do. A 6" tach on the dash usually only means one thing...

Its weird how some areas have nothing but ricers, while others will have an actual street racing 'scene'.
Here in jesusville there are plenty of ricers of course, but there are plenty of seriously fast imports rolling around too, some of which I know the owners.

Big wing, short shifter.

Rice has been around since before it was called rice. Way back in the day kids would just throw cherry bomb mufflers on their cars (even the old slant 6s).

This hobby is always full of people who want the supposed 'cool factor' and could not really care less about performance or competition.

I think the first saw of the intakes like that was about 8 years ago. Nothing new. I always like the V6 'Saleen' Mustangs personally. Especially when rolling around town on a spare tire for a couple weeks.
