Fast lap of Manhattan island

Driver Claims New Record For Fastest Lap Around Manhattan

Granted the vid is sped up, but it didn't look particularly dangerous to me. The driver seemed very smooth, and read traffic very well.

The NYPD commissioner is hellbent on catching him:
NYPD Commissioner Declares War On 'Afroduck' After Jalopnik Article

The driver said he used a Z4, and the NY Post publishes the story with a picture of a 3-series :D

Doesnt look terribly fast, he was just speeding while driving in a circle. Whoopty fuck doo.

Pigs get all bent out of shape about stupid shit. How many fucking murders do you think will happen in NYC tonight? Oh, but they have to catch some shart stain in a hairdressers car who recorded himself driving quickly.

Erat 09-05-2013 04:30 AM

I like how he waited at the red lights...

I don't even do that driving around Detroit. They're treated like stop signs. Even for normal driving. lol

Having spent time driving in the 3rd world, driving like that is actually a lot of fun. It's about reading the traffic and finding holes.

When I was 16, it was actually really easy to go 15-20mph over the flow of traffic. You never had to look in your blind spot, since you knew exactly where everyone was a moment before they get behind you.

4 speeding tickets later, I learned to slow down.

I really wanna rent or borrow a z4 now and putt around Manhattan. See how many times I get pulled over.

Looks like the NYPD got their man. Wonder how much that cost?

NYPD Arrest Manhattan Speeder Christopher Adam Tang aka Afroduck

And this from one of the commenters http://jalopnik.com/forget-the-racin...lou-1261413929

JasonC SBB 09-06-2013 11:40 AM

And how?

nitrodann 09-06-2013 11:45 AM

The fact that nobody wrote a petition asking the police to spend their hard earned stolen wages worth of time helping society is just disheartening isnt it.

I wonder if one did an economic analysis:

- Assuming every life lost is $1M, and the average economic loss for crippling someone for life is some other value like $500k

- Assume the average economic output of a worker is $40/hr

- Figure out how many lifes are lost or ruined due to fast drivers like Afroduck, and calculate the resulting economic loss

- In comparison, look at how many $ in lost man-hours due to slowpokes and left-lane campers that slow overall traffic flow down

- Look at how many $ are lost in man-hours due to POS traffic lights with 1970s technology that make everyone wait while it's green in a direction with no cars and nobody is crossing the intersection (instead of roundabouts or smarter lights that use cameras to control them better)

I betcha slowpokes and bad traffic lights have a waaaaay higher economic cost than fast driving ticket fodder. But politics and bureaucracies the way they are, will beat their chests and expend enormous resources on catching one scofflaw that makes them look stupid like this guy, and nothing on improving stoplight technology to save countless man-hours.

Yes, it's corrupt, we know.

Well that sucks, lol.

In the NYPD's defense, as soon as I read about the "record" my first reaction was, "I really wish this was local so I could go try to beat it." Now that he's been arrested I'm thinking maybe that's not a good idea. By arresting the guy, or even faking that they arrested the guy, they're certainly going to cut down on the fast and furious crowd that would otherwise be coming from hours away to try and take down the record.

How about the insane number of street lights, consuming energy and creating tons of light pollution, which have been proven countless times to have no effect on traffic accidents or crime?

The most intelligent and logical people in our country are not interested in being politicians. So we have to suffer being governed by a bunch of ambitious retards.
