I was wrong, they run it in the transmission... |

674 miles with 10.26 gallons. Most of that was at 85mph hilly. The last 200 miles were glorious, i finally drove in a horizontal landscape. Even at 6600 feet, it was pegging the mpg meter running full lean just driving around normally. Just witchcraft. |
Nice. I always liked these.
|
Talk about taste the rainbow. Those gauges are interesting.
|
I like them. Makes me think i'm in a 80's movie spacecraft.
did you end up doing any mpg mods on your prius? |
This thread made me go buy '05 Civic Hybrid; 5 speed, 217k miles, an intermittent IMA light, in decent condition for $1400. Unfortunately I just couldn't justify another 2 seater, or it definitely would have been an insight.
I'm anxious to see what it does. So far it got 39.6mpg on the 150 mile drive home that was almost all 80-85mph. I'm hoping it'll average 50mpg on the daily commute. |

Haha. Glad I could help get another hybrid on the team! Going 80+ on level road, at 6000ft, iirc I get 50-60mpg depending on a few variables. If you are at sea level, I think 50mpg at 80mph would be optimistic, given the civics higher drag, and denser air.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c7cdc4cbd1.jpg 804.2 miles with 10.19 gallons of gas. All mountain highways. Steep (15%) grades, some lasting 20 miles, 5500ft-10000ft elevation range, high crosswinds... Im happy with that! I also started using the a/c to aid the compression braking downhill. I am pretty smug about that, even though its a simple thing. |
my last tank of gas my daily driver got 13mpg. pretty happy with that. glad to be part of the gas savings club :)
|
I was happy to see the 135i a few weekends ago knocked down 26mpg at 80mph for a trip to Tulsa and back.
|
After the tune I'm up to 17mpg in my car. Aidan and I should stop much less frequently for gas on the way to Laguna Seca this year.
|
on the hwy mine gets 20's
but aint nobody got time for hwy all city bae, with plenty of FFSSSSSSS :D |
My 10 mile commute to work showed 51.8mpg in my Civic, which is pretty promising since it's throwing codes for a failed IMA battery code and a bad cat. Still not sure if I want to dump money into it or just keep driving.
|
I wouldn’t. Our 05 civic hybrid was a total piece of trash I wasted so much money on it back in the day and stuff just kept failing over and over. Finally gave up and sold it dirt cheap cause I couldn’t stand it anymore
|
i was actually surprised: i got 31mpg in my c400 driving back from Charlotte, NC to NoVA. I wasnt even trying. dat airbag suspension is hella smooth.
really, that's not bad for an i-4 let alone a twin turbo v6 that makes 330/375 hp/tq |

just maintain enough for safe driving, and enjoy the mpg |

Grid charge and discharge the batt a few times O2 sensor spacer for the rear o2. Buy an actual right angle spacer, not anti fowler. |

I've always pronounced it the same as the title of the animated movie about the rats. But then I wonder if people think I sound like an idiot.
|
I have always said the long version, not the acronym. Here is an old discussion on an rc forum about the topic...

Spent friday night replacing the primary cat and gaskets. Went for a 6hr road trip on sat hating every second of it. No exhaust leaks, but the car had NO power and was stuttering all over the place. I was WOT in 4th gear to try and maintain 70mph on the interstate.
2nd cat was completely plugged.... The exhaust leak in the primary was enough for the car to drive normally, but severely choked it after fixing it. Replaced the radiator and fixed 2nd cat today. Attachment 228909 Attachment 228910 No longer legal in california:rolleyes: Attachment 228911 |
I found this the other day and thought it was pretty amusing
|
holy crap! I'm surprized you tried to keep 70mph, hope you didnt damage something. You just cut it out?
Haha, that poor insight! It was charging the whole time, you can only floor it for like 20 seconds with full assist before it goes to recharge only. It is pretty fun to toss around. A properly build k swap would do really well. I think they weigh like 1200 pounds stripped. Good tires and suspension, 250whp... nasty. I'm sure you guys have seen this already, but this is an awd turbo k swap insight, and its fast... |
Now I kinda want one of these... boosted H22 would be my poison of choice.
|
And only ~$25k for an AWD Kswap.
There was a lot of *****you I hope you catch on fire on sat... Temp peaked at ~242*f:burncash: Didn't fubar anything that I can tell. Cut out the cat and all is well. |

You should just get another one

I drive 8 to 10 hours out of many days of the week. In fact, I'm driving right now. I do not want a little bitty car to drive everyday.
|
If it wasn't so far, that would be tempting to keep miles off the BMW until I decide to keep or trade.

I had the BRZ for just over 3 years and that's the 2nd longest I've owned any vehicle, I had my GT Track Pack car for like 7 months after special ordering it. If I do, I'll be returning to familiar territory. ND2 or Gen III Coyote Mustang. |
I'm not judging at all. I get bored fast too:)
|
Oh it's a fantastic car, I thought I wanted a "grown up" car. Turns out, I was just sick of the BRZ. The girlfriend was not pleased when I told her what I was thinking, she loves the car. Especially when I tell her to take it to work on the days I work from home.
I miss having a convertible and I miss having a V8. But none of the 'vert versions of V8 cars appeal to me, style wise. Outside of other expensive German cars. lol So it's either Miata or Mustang. |
my 330hp/355tq DD made 32.2 mpg to the beach and back.
the seats are not as comfortable as my last MB however. |
I measured it the other day when we went to Tulsa, cruise set at 85 = 28mpg in cosseting, German luxury. I was OK with that.
Around town commuting and such it gets more like 16. Might have something to do with my right foot though. |
Just found this thread. My people. I have long been wanting to get a first gen insight and this thread further justifies my want.
|
|
Nice! You doing anything special?
its really cool when the mpg and the miles travelled are the same, its like, hell yeah I travelled that far on one gallon! |
Just following a semi doing 75
Only managed to get ~52mpg over the tank though. Car NEEDS a calpod switch to stop assist/regen on the interstate. Especially with the AC on. |
And it's gone. Was not my dream commuter car...
MPG was amazing, but there were too many drawbacks to warrant keeping it. |
Yeah, a few days ago, i was driving home 5 hours, i only had maybe 1 hour of sleep in the past few days...
I was super irritated, and i wanted to get home asap to sleep. It just happened to be an incredibly windy day, (wind advisory) and could barely go 70mph on level road. Uphil was brutal. I was wishing for some power. Still got 63mpg for that tank, and did the 660mile round trip in a single tank of gas, but at the time, i would have filled up again to get home an hour earlier. Which doesnt really matter, or make sense, but when angry, logic doesnt count, lol. |
Your cats are plugged... even with a headwind it should have no problem doing 80+.
Calpod switch is a 100% must gor interstate driving. |
Unless the ac was on, then you're fubar

There's one of these Insights at my local dealer that looks to be in really good condition. Any reason for this thing to cost fivethousanddollars (besides simply being at a dealership)?
I've owned three different Priuses and I've always been intrigued by the Insight. https://www.antrimhonda.com/used/Hon...79fcda7d3d.htm |
I posted one for $1500 in this thread
|
Also, no that is not a good deal. There are CELs and the battery and electronics are bad. IMA light is on. That car isnt even worth 1000. Thats a parts car only IF the engine is ok. Body panels sell for a decent amount.

Saw a commercial for the new insight during one of the football games yesterday and could only think of this thread. I think that makes you a celebrity in my book.

Hey! Thats cool!
Thanks for thinking of me! |
