First street race w/MS!

A late model Celica GT-S ends up next to me at a stoplight. I look over and notice him just as the light turns green and he catches me napping.

I don't even try cause I've never done the ricer flyby and tonight wasn't going to be my first.

When he takes off, I notice the TRD sticker and can hear a really nice exhaust, plus an intake and BOV when he shifted... probably a few more things, but nothing major.

We end up together at the next stoplight... and for a brief moment I think about the EBC switch... nope, but it's there for 3rd gear if I need it. We'll see if wastegate is enough.

EBC definitely not needed. When I hit boost in first the right rear lit up cause they're 195's and it's 35* out... short shift into second while he gains 1/2 carlength... and then it's over... and I mean over. I had 2+ carlengths by the end of second, and when I let out of in 3rd at about 70mph, I had a fucking bus and a half at least. I know he was on it hard, cause when I let off in 3rd, I looked back and saw his headlights really bright, then go dim as he let off and the nose dropped.

At 7psi, it only feels a hair slower than my bandaids at 12psi (and that was on a motor headed south)... I can't wait for the dyno day!!!

patsmx5 02-28-2008 10:10 PM

Nice. It's a good feeling for sure. You have an open differential? Sounds like it's running great, good job. I love hearing good stories, it's motivation for me to get my setup done this summer.

miataz 02-28-2008 10:34 PM

i cant wait i love the MS, i was just in my garage, and i could never do a burnout with the 17's that i had on because they were so heavy and i lit them up in my garage like nothing ahha, when summer comes im throwing on the stocks and lighting them up till theres no rubber left lol

Saml01 02-28-2008 10:35 PM

Nice kill

Savington 02-28-2008 10:50 PM

Crank it up. You think Celicas are fun? You'd like the look on the E46 M3 owner's face as I vent the BOV on a WOT 4-5 upshift, and then continue to pull on him. :D

mazda/nissan 02-28-2008 10:53 PM

watch out for those Dinan bmw's though, they can be snappy

jayc72 02-28-2008 10:55 PM

I can't believe you'd be so reckless and street race! What the hell is wrong with you?

Oh wait, wrong forum. Nicely done. :)

Mach929 02-28-2008 10:58 PM

ms rocks, i picked up 50whp at the same boost compared to my shitty emb

Bryce 02-28-2008 11:42 PM

I'm installing MS right now! I can't wait!

magnamx-5 02-28-2008 11:50 PM

Sweet story man :D

y8s 02-28-2008 11:55 PM

i'd say a bov on a celica is a little major... they dont come from the factory with a turbo. just 190 n/a bhp I think.

that is still a badass yamaha motor they have, badass enough for the lotus :dunno: I think some supercharger kits can make them pretty good, i had seen a video on a celica website of one whipping up on a 650cc bike on the interstate but can't find it now :td:

miatamania 02-29-2008 12:25 AM

lol...agreed, a BOV on a celica means that bitch is boosted.

Nice kill.

mike_671 02-29-2008 12:30 AM

hers an idea on what a boosted Gts is like this vid is a 2000 celica 7psi

1fastmiata 02-29-2008 12:31 AM

I raced 2 civic Si turbos on the highway (with my gf in the passenger seat LOL) 60mph start... i was TOYING with them... 5th gear i was 1.5 car length ahead at 100mph... second pull... i started in 3rd... i let off the gas at 130mph... they were so far back i had to slow down to 60 for them to catch up. i looked in my mirror and honest to god, at least 10 lengths. DOMINATION!!

LateralSpeed 02-29-2008 12:51 AM

Yea, newer celica gts' have 180hp and a monstrous 130tq stock, if you beat a boosted one that's pretty good because they can make decent hp on not too much boost. Good kill either way though :bigtu::skid:

It always makes you feel good to kill a car that thinks "Eh, it's just a miata" till you leave em back!

samnavy 02-29-2008 09:01 AM

The 7th Gen GTS (2000-2005) came with a 2ZZ-GE 1.8 making 180hp w/VVTLi on 7-8psi non-intercooled through one of the small Toyota CT turbos.
They run a 15.5 1/4mile stock. Then the Scion came along and killed Celica sales, so they are no more.

I kinda feel sorry for the guy. It was ridiculous how I pulled on him. Remember the video a few days ago of the late spooling Supra demolishing a Gallardo... kinda like that. One second he has half a length on me, and the next second I'm in another county.

And yes, stock 6" open dif... 150k miles and holding. On dry and warm pavement, I have no traction problems. Concrete/cold/moisture+195's=right rear smokums!

i am fairly certain that the GTS did not come turbocharged, they made more power because of their VVTL-i and were NA

Er i'm with him ^. They GT-S were not turbo stock, they were 180 hp, but made SHIT torque. The benefits over the stock "GT" was a higher compression and the VVTL-i. I'm talking like.. they make so little torque they were made fun of constantly on the honda forums. :bowrofl:

Zabac 02-29-2008 12:04 PM

I know for a fact that the GTS Celica is not boosted from the factory
it simly has another gear (6), and valve lift control over the GT, along with a more aggressive tune and raised redline
no biggie
here is the best celica evaah
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...-safari-93.jpg

y8s 02-29-2008 12:13 PM

no, only the alltracs had turbos. it would have been a 2ZZ-GTE otherwise and those dont exist. T is for turbo. 3S-GTE was the turbo motor in the alltrac / mr2.

and the celica racing the bike on the interstate may have been an older 91-93 ST185 alltrac. the video is long gone but it was pretty awesome. I think that was 400some awhp.

scfreshy 02-29-2008 01:52 PM

I really like the alltrac celicas. Top gear did a special on them a long while back and it got me liking them. Too bad they are extremely rare...and if found will cost you a lumpsum.

urgaynknowit 02-29-2008 02:05 PM

i laughed at that one

i cant wait to get ms/fuel pump/injectors so i can rape wrx's, they make me upset

you dont need a fuel pump, MS and injectors wil provide you all the fuel you need for well over 250whp

Doppelgänger 02-29-2008 02:55 PM

Nice!

I haven't really gotten into many dig runs with the new car, but have had a few rolls. I ran a spankin new Infiniti G and pulled on him (i think they're up to like 330hp now).

i'VE annihilated more then my fair share of civic so far though. Got pulled on by a GC8/2.5RS with a turbo (bet it was a EJ20 swap). Tried running a Crossfire SRT-6 from a dig..... walked his ass off the line only to miss 2nd :(

samnavy 02-29-2008 03:52 PM

You are all correct, it is NOT and OEM turbo car. I don't know what I googled that made me think it was turbo'd stock... but this guy last night was definitely boostin.

Zabac 02-29-2008 04:41 PM

toyota will bring the celica back, they have to, the scion just wont cut it in the perfomance world
and just so anyone knows, the Tc is not a celica replacement, nor was it intended to be one!
Toyota has to come out with anything boosted and either RWD or AWD and tackle the younger market again...

drewbroo 02-29-2008 09:21 PM

they need to bring the supra back 1st.....

urgaynknowit 02-29-2008 09:54 PM

they need the 98 supra back, with a light face lift, nothing major, i love how the supra looks

Mach929 02-29-2008 10:03 PM

in todays dollars the a true to it's name supra would be way to expensive to be successful for toyota

y8s 02-29-2008 10:18 PM

same with the awd turbo celicas. back in 1988 the alltrac was $21,000. I imagine the average honda civic was around 5000?

rotaryjunky 02-29-2008 10:35 PM

I sold my 88 st165 alltrac to start my civic. The s3gte was a great engine, lots of potential with just a mbc, but it was dead heavy and the interior is terrible. I would still like a ST185 , though.

rotaryjunky 02-29-2008 10:38 PM

By the way, nice kill, even if it was fwd!

LateralSpeed 03-01-2008 02:14 AM

lol I can't believe how much misinformation is floating around this thread. I thought I cleared up what engine it had in it on the last page... Anyway I think this celica would have had to be boosting because I know a couple gt-s' with I/H/E/underdrive pulleys that only run 10.0's in the 1/8th... in order to get even into the low 9's they have to go turbo or do a shit ton of work to the motor(or spray of course). I'm running low 9's and i'd imagine you're either somewhere around me or faster(high 8's).

I think the scion was created to sell these little emo twats into thinking they're buying 'cool' race cars. They're a joke to me especially the tc. Can't count how many turbocharged scions there are around here which I walk in my bone stock MS6.

Another kid has a 100 wet kit on his tc and can't even keep up with my best friends 94 JRSC non-intercooled p-p-p-pwercard!! miata.

Everytime I see a scion I just go :giggle:.

urgaynknowit 03-01-2008 02:41 AM

theres this one scione around my area,
i raced it once, and the kid blew my doors off
later i found out it was built, he runs 11's.....
the thing didnt look highly modified,
he had wide ass wheels , a drop, and muffler,
i failed to notice the intercooler, it was black

to say the least, i was surprised...

rotaryjunky 03-01-2008 10:03 AM

The Xb is actually made by Daewoo. Case closed.

Toyota is now simply about the profits. While GM is trying to build higher quality cars. Hmm.

Yea... it's called playing catchup. Domestics are rushing to catch up to most imports because they finally realized that just having a car with a big engine isn't enough anymore... people want a car that's going to last a few years without breaking all the time and some cheap ass interior too. Look at hyundai and kia. Two car makers with pretty bad reps and over the last 8 years or so they've skyrocketed and become two(well one since hyundai bought kia) of the highest selling and most well built cars(in the price ranges) available.

mazda/nissan 03-01-2008 07:47 PM

there still korean, the car's motor is still turned the wrong way, and i'm still a redneck hillbilly

My bad, it is actually a DAIHATSU MATERIA. They are all over Italy.

Correction, its an identical sister car. Freaked me out to see that badge on them.
