I was thinking, if I wanted to use my Xbox that is in room A in room B, without moving the xbox (assuming the wireless controller works, it does), would there be any problem using a roughly 30' Coax cable (like this one) to go from a modulator to the digital TV? Anyone tried this? Would just any Coax cable work or do I need something specific?

Xbox 360 -- Modulator -- 30' Coax cable -- LCD TV "antenna/cable IN port"

Yes, that will work.

If you want slightly higher quality and don't want to deal with a modulator, you can also easily extend the composite video and L/R audio over that distance using RCA cables such as the ones here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10241

Or if you have component capability on both ends, these 5-RCA cables (RG-59 is perfectly adequate over such a short distance): http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10235

As shuiend pointed, out, HDMI cables can also be had inexpensively. If the Xbox's HDMI out is already in use at the main point of presence, cheap HDMI splitters are are available: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

I was perfectly happy with component as well until I switched to an HDMI cable on our $400 used 42". Looks amazing, well worth the ~$10 I paid for the HDMI cable, can't imagine what it would look like on a newer TV.

Thanks for the info, I think I'm going to go with this 50' RCA and one of these RCA couplers to attach th the RCA the male cable to the 50' cable.

I may reconsider after reading this...

I'll be sure to try it someday when I own a TV set with an HDMI input. For my, my ole' 55" three-gun suits me just fine.

Face it, you'll never own a newer set because you dread having to move the old one.

FWIW, I have been VERY happy with my cheap as hell Walmart TV (52"). Got the cheapest one they had on the shelf and it was a huge upgrade from the expensive/heavy as hell 36" Trinitron tube that I had. I swapped from cable / crappy Tivo low res / SD tube to HD satellite / HD (720) plasma and have been pleased.


As far as the OPs topic, I tried playing XBox1 in another room and controller lag is what you need to be concerned with. I don't know how the normal XBox 360 wireless controller stacks up against my aftermarket wireless XBox1 controller but I didn't have much luck.

I'll test that out before I buy anything, but I was more concerned with possible owing to the 50' RCA cable.

Heh. I've actually hauled this thing across the country three times (and moved it shorter distances a few times as well), and every single time I have to load and secure into a moving truck, I swear it will be the last time.

On the other hand, I just can't bring myself to do it. While I admit that modern LCD sets provide a much sharper image than my 11 year old tubes, there's something about the look if the image that the CRT set provides that I just... prefer. Color rendition seems richer and more natural, and with older SD source material in particular, LCDs always seem to display funky luminescence artifacts that drive me nuts.

If I were to upgrade, it would probably be to a DLP rear-projector, assuming they still exist by the time I pull the trigger. Unfortunately, Samsung appears to have pulled out of the DLP game, which just leaves Mitsubishi. On the plus side, the Mitsu LaserVue sets look absolutely incredible, I just wish they were available in something smaller than a 75" screen (that's a tad large for my living room.)

Ok, and trust me- if I do ever replace the one I have, I'll be "moving" the old one out in pieces. Rear-projection sets are mostly just a bunch of air enclosed by several pieces of particleboard, so they're surprisingly easy to dismantle rapidly.


50 feet is nothing for composite video. You will need to be sure to use non-shitty cable at that length (something made of RG-59, not the cheap-*** thin stuff that short cables are made of) but aside from that you should have no problems at all.

+1 on Joe's comment. I have used several 100' runs in the past and had zero problems with them. I bought them on Ebay for VERY cheap (they were mid-grade cables).
